You need a new radio. :)

I always buy radios that won't receive country stations. Everything else, yes, but not country. I'm allergic.

Oh, and welcome to BTB!

I hate the guy but he is coaching freshman, admittedly very talented but only caring about the NBA, and they have reached the elite 8 six of his eight years and have made the final four 3/8 years.  That is more than we have done in what....30 years!!!

All coaches coach freshman, its not anyones fault but his own that he chooses to coach 6 top freshman every year. The excuses youre making validate my point, that would be impressive if he had a normal team, but when you have the most talent every year that isnt impressive at all.

I'm really not trying to be a d*** but what does that have to do with anything? I dont understand bringing up something irrelevant when youre trying to make a point like it helps. That would be like me using Kevin Ollie to make my case because hes won the same amount of championships as Calipari with lesser talent. I could do that but what does it have to do with Cal and UK?

Kevin Ollie is Mike Davis 2.0, except he won the last game of the season.

I'm so sick of hearing about feelings and insecurities. That crap got old a long time ago.

Yes you would and so would most of the fanbase. When you have an elite level of talent like they have/had, you have a certain level of expectations and they have not lived up to it. I cant stand UK but they should easily be sitting on atleast 3 championships under Cal.

I remember in the fall of 2013, after the season that pUKe went to the NIT, they had the class coming in with Julius Randell, the Harrisons, James Young, Marcus lee etc, and Poythress and Willie Cauley-Speinless returning for their "wasn't quite good enough for 1 and done" year.

Cal was on the radio and he had just came from workouts and he said he was driving back smiling and pounding the steering wheel, "we have a team again". I knew, he knew, that he couldn't coach a team, that couldn't coach themselves and out-talent everyone.

If the talent is close pUKe will often lose.

It's hard to tell if Cal can coach or not. I suspect average at best. But when you have a new, young team every year, the schematics have to be simplified and pure talent carry the day. That's his choice of how to play college basketball and if he were honest, I imagine even he expected better results. Now, how he gets that talent is another discussion. With Coach K playing a similar game now, Cal's talent pool is greatly reduced.

Thinking of the numbers and magnitude of the scandals under Mark Emmert's NCAA watch, at what point does he begin to feel the heat, given his hands-off (underststement) approach to the following seemingly unprecedented scandals and then also the many relatively ordinary (for lack of a better word) NCAA scandals he has presided over?

Jerry Sandusky PSU FBI serial molestation and coverup scandal

UNC academic fraud scandal

Larry Nassar MSU FBI serial molestation and coverup scandal

Adidas FBI player payment and kickback scandal

While I have not researched the history of NCAA scandals, off the top of my head it seems the recent frequency and magnitude of scandals involving NCAA programs might right now be at an unprecedented very high level.

At what point should one begin to ask if the farmer is tilling the land properly when the ground has become so recently fertile for giant weeds?

Is he in over his head?

Is he making the NCAA a boatload of money? No, he'll be gone soon. Yes, just ride out the storm and make more money! (Also create groups that cost very little but are home runs with the media)

That is a good point.  And that is probably part of the mission. But is that the only mission of the NCAA, to make as much money as possible?

I agree that if NCAA athletics were hemmorhaging money he would already be gone and rightly so lol. But is money the only measure when so many dark stories involving predatory sexual child abuse and child rape by individuals high on the pecking order seem to pop up now with what is becoming almost normal frequency, and then minimal investigation continues to show a pattern of directors of NCAA member programs routinely covering for predators hunting children for sex in their offices on campus?  And child rape is not the only very serious serial crime continuously uncovered now by the FBI and other organizations.

Right now no big story in the news suggests any pressure applied to the president of the NCAA. Should he be asked to take a more active role, and at least consider ways to address the growing scandals uncovered during his administration? Or is this none of his business?

My response was sarcasm. The NCAA is a huge reason why this continues, not to mention the rape of other students at several universities. I'm sure he'll get a huge bonus after the NCAA tourney is a huge success.

He has made the Final Four 3 of the last 8 years. He has made the Elite 8 six of the last 8 years. We have made the Elite 8 six of the last 36 years. Ollie is a ridiculous comparison. He has had not had continued success.

Again, I do not like him, disagree with his methods but if you only look at results they stack up with any program in the country over the last 8 years.

His talent is buying the players and getting them to buy in. I mean that, they may be soulless mercenaries, but pUKe plays defense, hustles, etc. I haven't watched them much this year, but usually that has been the case. He gets a lot of talent that works hard and that is enough to win a lot of games, especially in the SEC (until this season.)

I agree he's under performed with the talent available. Poor ROI, Cal.

Ollie is no more of a ridiculous comparison as you trying to compare us to them. You cant have it both ways and only allow comparisons that benefit your argument.

That's not the argument and its clear what I said has completely gone over your head. Results compared to talent is different than results compared to everyone else. The results you keep comparing to everyone else holds absolutely no water when you look at their talent level. They've had the best talent in the country pretty much almost every year he's been there. You're making a straw man argument.

Your right. Your complex theory is way over my head.

Nice sarcasm, but you cant have a discussion when you only allow ridiculous examples to back your point.
