Hoosier Hysteria Visitors - 10/21/17

my bold prediction for the season: justin smith either starts or has heavy minutes by the end of the season

I agree, both he and Moore will see significant minutes.Moore really has a nose for the ball at the glass and is just long as hell.DeRon was frustrated with Freddies defense. He was all up in his @$$.Greens a natural scorer.I guess Josh was nursing an injury along with Hartman and Durham as none of them played.

I’m almost scared to post this in case of a backlash, but just to give an honest opinion that contradicts a lot on here I was pretty disappointed. The intros were nice, and all the recruits getting to walk across the court with their families to standing ovations seemed to impress many (judging by the smirks on their face and their families) but after that it was very underwhelming for me. I just got pretty bored with everything, I know it’s just a scrimmage and a few fun contests but it just seemed somewhat unorganized and I feel like we looked very sloppy in the scrimmage. I frequently looked down to where the recruits were sitting and IMO a lot of times they looked uninterested as well, chin in hand just got of bored looking.

I’ve been to some small DII “midnight madnesses” and found them way more entertaining and hyped feeling. I hope I’m wrong but just didn’t seem to live up to the hype to me especially with major recruits in house.

I thought it was kind of boring too but I'm not worried. Hype and promotion isnt really Archie's thing. Romeo and Darius know that we know who they are and I think that was the most important thing for them to get out of the event. They got to see how passionate IU fans are, camping out for hours for a practice, etc. We probably had more people at Hoosier Hysteria than Vanderbilt gets at their games.

I think we all feel this way. We had style over substance before and that didn't work. Now, hopefully substance over style will eventually work.

Some mixture would be nice. The intro IUMBB video was cool. Some of the on court graphics other schools do is cool. That shouldn't be too hard.

As long as he can get high impact recruits in spite of production value I won't care.

I think the only Wow factors were size of the crowd and the standing O, the players got as the entered the court.

TBD......

If a recruit chooses a school based on a music act or hype, then they'd be disappointed in CAM overall. Like Wayne, I'd be ok w more of a balance, but if the recruit decides on one event, they haven't done their research on the coach or team.

No backlash from me!
I agree with pretty much everything you said, but the lack of entertainment value last night didn’t bother me at all.

Well now I'm officially excited for the season to start.  I don't have incredibly high expectations which should make it a fun year to watch Archie develop this crew, especially the freshman.

Clifton Moore should pop in some tape of Jared Jeffries and strive to be like him.  He looks so similar it's striking.

I’m just happy I can root for the team to win every game this year. Last year was the worst for me ever as a fan. I’ve never been conflicted like that and i’d rather it never happen again.

It was the worst feeling. I know I annoyed the crap out of people with the tank talk, and I'm sorry for it. I just couldn't take another season of Crean so I wanted whatever it took to get rid of him to happen.

I think we've finally got the guy that can get the fans and the program to move on from Bob Knight. This is going to be a fun year.

Don’t feel bad, I felt the same way. So happy we made the change.

I stood in line for 4 hours to get in. Totally worth it.

I definitely feel like it was more business-oriented this year as compared to the Crean years. Less videos, fireworks, filler kind of stuff. It worked in some areas but did feel lacking in others IMO. Not a big deal.

As far as the scrimmage goes, a few observations:

- Devonte was the best player on the court tonight, and as Stu said, the alpha dog. He looks really confident out there. Still makes some unnecessary plays and can get flashy, but I feel like Archie will bring the best out in him.

- Rob was his normal, steady self. I feel like he’ll have to bail us out this year quite a bit on O. Hope he’s up to the challenge.

- De’ron and Juwan were solid, but nothing really stood out. They both had some nice post moves and De’ron showed a mid-range J.

- Cujo still isn’t impressing me. Plays lackadaisical and tentative. Still looks weak when driving. Might need his shooting at some point, however.

- We may not see it this year, but Clifton is going to be a big time player in the coming years. Hope he stays long enough for us to witness it.

- Other guys that did some solid things were  Race, Freddie, and Justin.

Overall it was a great time, and can’t wait to go back next year!

Appreciate you sharing your observations. Can't wait to see the Hoosiers.

.......As a Hoosier fan there are only so many times in my lifetime that I will get a chance to step foot in Assembly Hall so I try and cherish those moments. I still get chills anytime I walk in that building.

Ah. Now there is a subject I haven't seen taken on in this thread yet.

For how many people was this the first time back inside the hall since the renovations happened? What were your impressions of the "new" hall?

Did all the recruits individually walk down the middle of the court? If so, very clever and easy for the fans to notice. I have not been for several years but back then the recruits walked around the perimeter of the court and were often barely noticed.
