Why woulld he leave Butler for OSU? With the state of both programs, I'd stay at Butler.

I think the ceiling is higher at OSU. But as you said, given the state of each program; I'd stay at Butler. Holtmann seems to have them rolling pretty well, while OSU is currently in pretty bad shape.

I wouldn't blame him though, Butler to Ohio State is still a step up.

How much money does OSU invest in their basketball program? I'm sure it is more than Butler, but in terms of the national view point how much of a move up would this be? Butler is in the Big East now so it isn't like they're stuck in the Horizon anymore. If he pans out I guess he'd quell all the questions of if he is legit, and able to win at the high conference level

Yeah I definitely don't want Holtmann at OSU, that'd be a really good hire for them.

And OSU is definitely a top job, especially for a guy like Holtmann.  He's not getting a UK, UCLA, Duke, UNC type of job, and OSU is definitely in that next tier.

I would wait for a better program to come calling. A lot of top jobs are going to open soon

He's not getting any better than a 2nd tier type job, which is what OSU is.

IU fan first as an alum but Butler a distant second for good reasons I will not share. Anyways this makes me sad not only because it hurts Butler but it could hurt IU depending on how Holtman does.

At some point if Butler wants to be the program they think they can be they have to learn to hold onto their coaches especially now being in the Big East. Losing a coach to OSU tells me they still have a bit of a way to go to be the top tier program they are trying to be. Eventually they will get one of these hires wrong (as they nearly did with Brandon Miller) and it will not be good for them. Also what does it say when two very similar programs and conference rivals (Creighton and Xavier) had their coach turn down the job? Says Butler is a much longer way from the top than their fans and school thought.

Doesn't really pertain to their coach search, but I think how much attention, or lack there if I should say, this has gained proves how much more of an elite job Indiana still is. Saw lots of people dissing IU saying it wasn't elite but when we had an opening it was all over ESPN and all the sports writers were talking about it, I've rarely seen any articles or sport shows talking about OSU having an opening.

Granted I know they are more of a football school, but there's been some out there saying it's an elite job.

Columbus Dispatch is reporting that tosu has scheduled a presser to announce Holtmann as their new coach... but sources telling the Indy Star that there is "zero chance" of that.
