(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA

Recommended Posts

At the end of the day I guess if some feel the need to get upset because he needs or wants more time to decide then by all means show your anger towards a 17 year old kid making a choice. 5 star top 15 recruiting battles can be a 12 round fight. Luckily for us when Archie took the job during his speech he said his staff would dedicate themselves to high school coaches and the recruits of the state and they must feel dominating by Indiana University. That’s all us fans can ask for is a coach dedicated and willing to go the full 12 rounds in a heavyweight recruiting battle.
Archie and staff have done everything possible in this recruitment in my opinion
They kept their promise from the start and developed a great relationship with TJD. So much so that from June 27, 2017 when they offered until his official visit in September IU got a top 15 5 star kid on campus unofficially 8 times (one of those times sitting behind the bench with Phinisee)and never missed one of his summer games. I call that dominating. Not once did this staff let up or stop recruiting him (MSU did for a little period during summer evaluations).
While most “insiders” have said this recruitment was close to being over not once did TJD say this. In fact in one of his last interviews with the Indy Star or rivals he stated he wanted to watch how Izzo coaches without Jackson and bridges and how Archie does with his own guys. Hard to watch these teams play if you sign with a team early. He said he wouldn’t go as long as Romeo but there was a possibility he won’t sign early. Well looks like he decided not to sign early. So I’m sure Archie and staff will still recruit him as hard as he did when he first started. IU is in great position with a top 15 5 star

Not once since the post earlier linking the new story about the decision timeline has anyone directed any negative comments towards TJD. We understand the game. Just disappointment in the timeline.

Where was this disappointment in September?

Wasn't a whole lot at the time. There was still that possibility of an impending commitment. We as a fanbase have had this idea for the last month or so have had this shoved down our throats by media,  so-called insiders, and even well respected posters here. I was just making the point that I didn't see all of this anger towards 'a 17 year kid making a choice' inferred by you.

It appears that Izzo and Alford unfortunately have won this round as TJD and probably Brooks won’t be committing and signing with IU this month. IMO, the longer he/they wait the more Izzo and/or Alford will pursuade him/them not to attend IU. Apparently MSU’s loss to KU didn’t lessen their interest in MSU as Izzo persuaded them to attend the game. It will be interesting to see how this transpires going forward.

Alford won’t have a bad enough year to get fired.

I remain confident we get TJD. The staff has put nearly all their chips in his basket.

I get the feeling the Romeo recruitment and hype plays a part in this.

Alford's seat could not be any hotter. There is no way he survives the season if he is anything higher than a 4 seed in the tournament, which would be possible if he could coach or if his roster wasn't total garbage. I will be thrilled when he is fired. Did you see the reports earlier this week that a UCLA assistant was calling and texting Christian Dawkins? I wonder how Alford got Wilkes...

Holtman will start keeping those kids. They were in flux when that class was committing.

Holtman just went 25-9 (15-3 in the B1G) and Rocket Watts(playing prep school in Ohio) a top 40 player in 2019 decided that MSU was the school best for him. Unless you think they were still in flux after making the tournament and finishing 2nd in the B1G

Jaelyn Withers top 80 player in 2019 decided Louisville was the best choice for him instead of his home state. Both picked different schools after the success that Holtman had last year. No state is going to get them all.

I’m not angry, just disappointed as I thought this was coming to a close and TJD and perhaps Brooks both, were going to commit soon and continue with the momentum. Our momentum will have to be done on the court until spring it seems, and that’s fine as I think we’re looking at a good year.

Very interested in what Pap and Chris have for us when they post hopefully today, because I do now feel like IU isn’t the leader we all thought on TJD.   One thought about the PR around a recruitment like this and if he’s looking for the Romeo treatment.  He’ll get that and the IU chants at all the game etc.  However, how many times would his name be mentioned on  broadcasts during IU games (seemingly when IU is looking good this year) by announcers talking about how good our class is coming in and who’s in it......

Since he will not be signing early something that will most definitely happen is other schools will be trying to jump in this recruitment since he is a unsigned 5 star. He also has 1 official visit left.
I’m hoping he does the Bol Bol or Shittu approach from last year. They all told everyone they wouldn’t be signing during the early period. Weeks after the early signing period Oregon and Vandy officially announced their signings. That’s because they signed LOI during the early period and sent in paperwork when they committed so schools could announce them
