LOL. I grew up and live in Illinois. That Rivalry is intense, but in Central Illinois there are a lot of "mixed" families. I grew up in one. My mom was a Cubs fan. Her side of family are all Cuba fans. My dad was a Cardinal fan. His side were all Cardinal fans. They had 6 kids. 3became Cuba fans and 3 became Cuba fans. I actually cheered for Cubs in WS in memory of my mom.

Yep I'm way past Donovan. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more that I think Archie is a better get than Donovan. One, Archie is young and has time on his side. Two, being from the Midwest, he gets IU. And three, potential through the roof

I have been reading a lot of coaches and talking head's statements about Archie and one that keeps popping up that I love is that he is "BLUE COLLAR". I always liked the toughness and swag that Knight and Sampson brought to the team as coaches. Of course Sampson fell short in other areas and Archie appears to be the total package with that blue collar edge. We could use a lotta blue collar--small town --work ethic in BTown . I think that will go a long way to getting a team to play D and in getting high school coaches back on board because in many ways--Coach Miller is one of us! The last time we had a blue collar, no-nonsense coach with Ohio roots (Knight) --it worked out pretty well. Let's hope it does again!

Another thing is Billy always would've felt like a hired gun. I think he would've had a lot of success here but he wouldn't have been "ours" in a sense. With Archie it's cool because he has the opportunity to grow with the program. He could be here 25-30 years and become synonymous with Indiana basketball like Bob Knight was back in the day. That's something I really hope to see happen.

I love Archie's Indiana-first recruiting philosophy but he has a lot of other recruiting connections he brings to the table and not just in the Midwest from his Dayton and Ohio State days--but also in the East from his NC State assistant days and in the West from his Arizona assistant days. I can't wait to see who he brings in to help the program as I predict we will continue to recruit nationwide with a special emphasis on Indiana kids.

Yeah Archie is gonna be here for quite some time. He understands IU and what to do to make them successful. That's something IU hasn't had since Knight. Gonna be great

Just throwing this out there bc I keep forgetting to mention it.......I'm a Cubs fan and I remember how I felt after they announced Theo Epstein as General Manager. It was a feeling of unwavering and effortless trust...... I have the exact same feeling now that I had then.

As a Cards fan I had a bad feeling that day. Hopefully the fact the Pukes fans that recognize the hire as great are correct.

Also I don't know if this has been talked about, but John Groce would be a great assistant coach here. Could really help on the recruiting side of things and has Indiana ties.

Wait...are we talking about the same John Groce that just got fired from Illinois?  

If so, I understand it, he is from Muncie and Taylor Univ, but he has been a HC for almost 10 years now...what makes you think that he would be willing to take a step back?

He got fired. You usually have to take a step back when that happens. If he wants to stay at a big program, an assistant job makes sense. If you learn under a successful coach, people are more willing to give you another chance.

I'd say a head coach position at UI to a lead assistant position at Indiana is a slight move up. He might even earn himself up to 800-1.2 million a year I'd say here.
