Popular Post HoosierTrav Posted March 20, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 20, 2017 Why so much hate for SA? Why does everyone on this mb think he's a bad coach? Name a coach that would consistently win at SWMST, NMST and Iowa? Of course he's not going to win championships with those teams. It's remarkable he was able to do what he did with those teams. He finally gets a legit job at UCLA and look what he's done in a short time. He's Also put together the #2 recruiting class for next year. Interesting what happens to good coaches when they get a legit basketball team. Think Bill Self would be consistently winning if still at Tulsa? Think Sean Miller would be pulling in top 5 talent at Xavier? I was never a big SA supporter until seeing what he has done with UCLA. At UCLA, he has proven (in a short time) that he can win and recruit with a top tier college basketball program. I have no reason to think he wouldn't carry even more recruiting weight in his home state and bring consistent winning and championship opportunities for many years to come. Probably pointless to post on this SA bash fest/BD love fest site, but couldn't help myself...Seriously....kids in Indiana aren't singing the Steve Alford song. Good coaches win consistently, no matter where they are. Period. Alford lost 17 games last year and like Crean, has done plenty of losing with NBA talent on his rosters. This year's success can almost entirely be attributed to having Lonzo Ball. A freshman pg who is being compared as a bigger and better scoring Jason Kidd. The notion that guys will do better if given the chance at an elite program is bs. We need not look any further than Tom Crean. His inconsistency didn't improve by taking a much higher profile job. If Alford was an elite coach, we'd have seen it long ago. theriverpilot, FortWayneHoosier, VO5 and 5 others 8 Quote
IUHAHN81 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Ahhhhh, the national media guys. A lot of whom can voice their opinion because the were once bball coaches and ended up sucking so they are on tv now. I think I'll pass on their "recommendations" as to who takes over our coaching spot. thebigweave, theriverpilot, Travis Scott and 1 other 4 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 This sounds like our next coach. I'm not exhilarated about it. But reading that quote it sure sounds like the Alford rumors have merit. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Quote

Would your one mistake be carrying Creans water pale all these years? I say that tongue in cheek of course. Pail* Clearly my mistake was trying to have an intelligent conversation about this. Keeps winning? What did he do last year with multiple NBA players on his roster? Consistently early exits from the tournament with top seeds? I disagree. His resume looks much like Crean's. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 I hope IF it's Alford, the fanbase can give him a solid 3 years of support to prove himself in the way we did for Crean. The hatred towards him has me scared of what could be coming. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners GloryDays, Benziu, IUsafety and 1 other 4 Quote

Bowhunter Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 He is not a homerun hire and I have to say I am nervous with all this Alford to IU talk. Look at it this way. Most of us want Donovan over Alford but what if the national media was saying Donovan to IU. Would we say they are wrong? I worry we just go off what we want to hear instead of common sense. Maybe that's just the pessimistic side coming out.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BtownBanners mobile app WayneFleekHoosier, IUsafety and Tom White 3 Quote
JSHoosier Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 I want Donovan but my gut feeling says it won't be him. Sadly I won't be surprised if we end up with Alford. My gut also said Crean was staying so there is that. IUsafety, WayneFleekHoosier and RedsIUfan 3 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Yeah, that's my fear. Hope Glass can somehow unite the fanbase. (The Alford rumors make sense and matches much of Glass' comments-And Janitor continues to beat that drum) It seems the only way that happens is Stevens, Donovan, and MAYBE Sean Miller. If you think about it, it was pretty amazing how few people actually knew about Crean being fired. If this is left up to Glass, and I'm not totally sure it is, I bet select few actually really know what is going on.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
