ebridges24 Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Then why not do what OG did and say immediately that he wasn't coming back? Seems kinda silly to me to keep everybody waiting if he already knew what his decision was. Archie knew, us fans were the ones kept in the dark.Sent from my LG-K371 using BtownBanners mobile app ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

bigrod Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I guess TB and I have a different definition for "mentally tough" because I didn't see it.Funny, when I read that I was wondering how he defined that term as well. I guess it's mentally tough to accept getting beat by teams with less talent.Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Tom White, Class of '66 Old Fart, WayneFleekHoosier and 3 others 6 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Maybe he was going for comedic relief?Or dealing with scatterbrained Crean all season loss after loss and a rabid fanbase ready to lynch. Regardless, it isn't a story of perseverance and success. What a sad season compared to possibilities and presumptions. I hope for it and expect it. Doesn't change a wasted college basketball season from a fan's perspective (except it was bad enough to CAN Crean-so it was worth it in the long run). The Codys and Victors are more rooted for than the Vonlehs and Blackmon's. It comes down to winning and investing into IUBB wholeheartedly before, during, and after. The same kid that would kick and scream like a 4 year old not getting an ice cream cone if everything didn't go perfect. I doubt very strongly if he learned much about mental toughness this last season.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app thebigweave, Class of '66 Old Fart, Hoosierfan2017 and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post Stuhoo Posted May 12, 2017 Popular Post Posted May 12, 2017 I like Thomas Bryant. However, he came to IU as a pretty immature kid. He played at IU during a time period when the head coach had a manic, quirky personality. I can see how that was someone Thomas could relate to during his recruitment, but it did him no favors. With Yogi, Max, and Z leading the team his freshman year, he seemed to mature substantially during the season, and his improved play reflected that. During his second season, without Yogi, Max, and Zeis, he was asked by the manic, quirky head coach to be one of the team's leaders. It. Did. Not. Go. Well. I largely base my support on a combination of winning and attitude. We didn't win last year, and Bryant's attitude sucked. He behaved like a petulant child on the court. I hope he can be successful wherever he ends up in life, and I hope he fixes his issues, but as an IU player he was a big disappointment this past season. Tom White 1 Quote

I am not saying he is a bad kid, but he knows very little about mental toughness. I don't feel I am bashing him. Hell I was probably less mature than him at that age. His actions on the court will be hard to justify if a GM questioned that statement.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Class of '66 Old Fart, Crimson and Cream, CR3AMnCR1MS0N and 5 others 8 Quote

RaceToTheTop Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 A lot of people seem to be conveniently removing Bryant's freshman year when IU DID win.....Big Ten title, 27-8 record. And talent wise that team didn't match up with the IU teams of Oladipo's sophomore and junior years which had two lottery picks. did Bryant whine about calls? Sure. To my knowledge it never cost the team.....I don't remember a single tech he had and any defensive issues he had weren't in getting back. I don't recall him saying anything negative in the press. I'll take an immature attitude that cares about winning over a complacent one any day. ThompsonHoosier, Stromboli, Josh and 1 other 4 Quote

Failing and getting back up, dusting yourself off with a determination to succeed, and then actually succeeding is way different than coming in tenth place and talking about how tough you are. Hopefully he figures that out. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Tom White 1 Quote
