TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Zeller staying for a junior year...Vonleh staying for a soph year.... Fischer staying, Trey Lyles staying committed... These things dont happen and this thread never exists IMO. Those teams would have been scary good, regardless of Creans in game abilities.

I don't have that answer. I'm not sure Crean can't get there too be honest. Kansas knows how to do it. Larry Brown-----Roy Williams-------Bill Self. (Some UK style stuff going on though).

Brad Stevens is the pipe dream. I think Billly Donovan could get those results. I think Tony Bennett is working miracles.

Crean has had 3/5 seasons pretty darn good. Iron out some consistency. Get a little better with roster management. Keep improving in game management. He had enough success, he has earned more time. Just worried he can't get over this hump.

Hoping he can.

Wayne, I share the same concerns. And admitted earlier that I misread your original criteria which sorta altered this argument, though you did end up settling on Indiana should be IU's best 20 years.

I just think IU fans need to realize that what IU had in Knight was special. And people can think that this universities program will just flourish regardless of who the coach is, but it takes having an elite or near elite coach. IU is in a position to attract that. So I get that. But until it becomes realistic, I guess I don't get the comparisons. I'm not under the misconception that Crean is Knight or anything.

Those things happen all the time elite coaches have back up plans and can roll with the punches. Crean was lucky that Zeller even stayed for a sophomore year.

Are you under the impression that everyone who doesn't think firing Tom Crean at this moment is the right move thinks he is an elite coach?

Like one poster on the board says, Crean does so much right. His low points he has shown some improvement through this season. He has as balanced roster, next years looks good at this point. He won the conference by 2 games. Yes, I want post season success. Lets play it out, and see what the outcome is. He has earned that much this year.

i can understand that. Just thinking that should be our goal. We are historically a top 5 team. Might as well strive to be that currently as well.

Tough thing is, Crean has shown some flashes of genius. Yeah, I said it. But, Highs are high, lows are low. Just need to raise these highs a little and lessen those lows a little. It's attainable.

Anyway. Kick some ass Crean. Finish on a high note! So stoked for this week.

72-94? 20 years of that.

I want better. I want consistency. Indiana wasn't always consistent from season to season. I want Top 3 finishes in the B1G (depending on the record). No less than 5 losses in conference each year. Annually Top 15 and getting outside the Top 20 makes noise. Instead we seem to have a fan base that is becoming ok with mediocrity. When Alabama was tired of not being Alabama they went out and made sure that was going to change. Same with Michigan football. Same with Kentucky basketball. Yet Indiana is just trying to be competitive and making the tourney is a goal. Making the Sweet 16 is a goal. Finishing Top 4 in the B1G is a goal. When the goals should be not only making the tourney but being a 1 seed. Winning the B1G. Going to the Final Four. Those should be the expectations every single year. But every year there is an excuse to be found. 12-13 it was that Jordy Hulls was injured and it was a bad matchup. 13-14 we didn't make the tourney because "we couldn't shoot." 14-15 because we didn't have any bigs. Yet we lost to Cuse because some of the worst coaching in school history. 13-14 was beyond misused. 14-15.. plenty of teams can win with just one 6-8 kid on the roster. It just has to be used correctly. And with better defense. My expectations are high and I know they can't be reached with who is in charge. But maybe Indiana is just another school that'll be good 1 of 3 years. But that just isn't good enough.

I mean, just based on Indiana's history that's a criteria that has never been achieved soo....maybe

Never achieved? Maybe not in some fans lifetimes but not mine. The 70's,80's and early 90's were pretty much dominated by the Hoosiers. It can be done again with the right leadership.
