TOM CREAN FIRED

Being a Celtics fan, I'm loving it. But, GS is without Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson.

Stevens has his team up 84-83 on the Warriors with 9:08 left. That defense is a thing of beauty.

***I had no idea where to put this***

.

I didn't realize that. A point could be made that Boston is playing without any single player the caliber of Curry, Green, Bogut, and Igoudala.

True, though Isiah Thomas is playing at an All-Star level this year. He's not in the Curry realm by any means, but in the discussion with the other guys. GS started Ian Clark (who?) and Brandon Rush their places.

Just came here to post that I am rooting for GS! No need for Stevens to be more successful

Disagree, I'll say it until I'm blue in the face but I believe BS will end up back in college.  The more success he sees in the NBA the less time he'll have to spend recruiting.  BS with NBA success + blue blood program and he'll almost have his pick of the litter.  This bring me to my next point...

Would people be okay if the next IU coach is a fill in for a few years before Brad comes home?  I don't know who that might be but an established coach who doesn't have too many years left before he's willing to bow out.

You are my new favorite poster.  I hate the big heads.  I hate the piped in music.  I hate the manufactured enthusiasm.  That's not our DNA.  It's not our culture.  We're a pep band and tradition.  Just who we are.  Duke has their quirky traditions, Kansas has theirs, we had ours...and we lost them in favor of "modern."  I know what the very predictable arguments are against what I just said, but I don't agree with them.  You don't have to have every bell, whistle, and gimmick to "keep up" or to attract the kids of today.  That stance is simply not correct.  Fred Glass holds the candle there...he's a quirky, gimmicky guy.  Smart, but gimmicky.   His marketing vs. what Indiana's been built on don't always match up.  Assembly Hall is still one of the coolest places around, but purity has a place.  It breeds the kind of basketball and kind of success I think we all want to see.  It doesn't get more pure than Hinkle, and their game atmosphere is still pretty vanilla because of the building.  But it's classic.  I like "classic," and I think it still plays very well.

I love some of the things that are traditional for us that you don't see much anymore; like our uniforms, basic with no names.  I loved how our court looked until that giant B1G logo got put right there at the foul line.

I mostly agree on the big heads, mostly I think they're stupid.  I don't mind if the big head has something to do with Indiana basketball, but Waldo or Dwight Schrute is stupid; and no, Dwight Schrute isn't related to Indiana basketball just because Crean looks like him.  I really hate the stupid gorilla costume too.

Honestly, the best example of a classic fan experience mixed with enough new to keep everyone engaged and pumped up? Cameron indoor. They do a great job using band music and modern themes and high energy. I think it would be impossible to win in Assembly Hall if we could get the fans as excited as they do. It's an arena designed for college sports, loud, uncomfortable, and forcing you to cheer and yell until you're hoarse. We are too busy making Assembly hall more like a professional arena and less like the arena we need.

So if Stevens says no, you would keep Crean?

Say Stevens won't talk until there is an opening. So you don't fire Crean bc you don't have an answer from Stevens?

I'm sure Stevens would hear IU out once the celtics are eliminated in the first round this up-coming playoff. and Honestly, i'm not impressed by any head coaches besides  the Millers that would make me jump the gun. So i guess my short list would be Stevens or one of the millers.. but those are like X.Y options.. STEVENS is every letter before those two letters lol

If stevens isn't interested, Keep crean until his contract is fully over and go from there

Personally, I'm not real crazy about that idea. Too many things could go wrong. I know I will get hammered for saying this but I'd rather ride it out until we can get The right guy. The next coach has to be the right coach.

Well the rumors in the spring were that Stevens wouldn't even listen to IU unless there was an opening. So as an AD you have to be willing to fire Crean to even talk with Stevens to see if he is interested.

You can't just keep Crean until his contract expires. College athletics doesn't work that way. If you keep him, you have to extend his contract for recruiting sake. I'm a firm believer in the 4 year rule. Where a coach is under contract for the 4 years of the current recruiting class. That way it lets recruits know that the coach is safe barring the unexpected.

So really it's fire Crean and go for the fences or stay with the devil you know and settle for mediocrity.
