Hurryin'Hoosier317 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I think you have to assume his 1st choices are Stevens and Donovan. Hell, he may even be considering Hoiberg. The Hoiberg experiment is going HORRIBLE in Chicago. So it's not a stretch to think that he will return to college. I believe that he is a good coach but I'm not sold on him being OUR guy. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Hardwood83, NCHoosier, Hoosierfan2017 and 3 others 6 Quote
Popular Post Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 17, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 17, 2017 Oh yeah, 1st calls go to Stevens and Billy. If those fail , I'm worried he's going to make a grandfather offer to Alford. I hope the boosters have some influence, they forced Glass into this decision they need to be throwing money at home runs. Hurryin'Hoosier317 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 My worst fear is that we will run out of viable options and start pressing. IUBB can't afford to settle this time around. Whoever we hire has to be a home run, hell a grand slam. I want nothing more then to stick it too pUKe and PUke fans who think that we are irrelevant. I just wish that we had some inside info. The rumors of having that booster meeting Wednesday night and Fred claiming he made the decision overnight seems a little fishy..I'm pretty sure this has been an idea of his for a few weeks now maybe like rumored, but those rumors leading up to the announcement just really go hand in hand.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

I think a lot of people jumped to conclusions/actually listened to recker regarding Fred Glass' stance on Crean. You're right though, the whole thing was odd. cthomas Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 If taken literally, Mr Class's criteria for our next coach excludes many of the lower tier guys we have discussed. I believe he has a short list and will go hard after option 1 or 2. He also knows that this is his signature hire. His ego will not allow him to fail and I believe we will be pretty happy with the result. Hurryin'Hoosier317, thebigweave, Napleshoosier and 4 others 7 Quote

I fully agree with this. Our facilities are some of the best, Assembly Hall is still one of the best/loudest venues in college basketball, Bloomington is a great college town and basketball is king at IU so as long as we keep up with all those things - the job will be elite for a long time. So the meeting with boosters to raise money for Billy. Thats my hope at least Justin Kotter and Josh 2 Quote
cljones1979 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Like it or not - they aren't wrong. Just bc we have 5 banners hanging doesn't give us elite status for life. It just means we have a great history. We haven't done jack diddly poo since. So no, we aren't elite. That's why we fired our coach. Consistently winning in the name of the game to get back there. I wouldn't count Gonzaga in that group, tho. That's a bit of a stretch. Yes, and with that context it's time for an "Urban Meyer hire" with the likes of Stevens or Donovan. We need to propel ourselves instantly back into the discussion with Duke, UNC, Kansas and UK. Period! Easy to say, hard to do...hopefully Glass is rolling up his sleeves. ALASKA HOOSIER, HoosierAloha and Milldawg12 3 Quote
Popular Post IUrocker Posted March 17, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 17, 2017 (edited) I will say that waiting on the announcement for a new coach is a lot less stressful than the announcement of whether or not Crean was being let go. I mean I'm sure that's obvious, but wow, what a relief. Edited March 17, 2017 by IUrocker Ryno6284, Str8Hoosiers, Cheaney40 and 7 others 10 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Very interesting article from the Indianapolis Business Journal and quotes from people that do get Fred's attention contrary to how some pundits have claimed that it was us little people that got FCTC fired. [Former Coach Tom Crean] And FWIW, I had contact with Steve Stitle on more than one occassion when I was gainfully employed many years ago and the man is a straight talker. Tells it like it is. http://www.ibj.com/articles/62991-big-iu-donors-were-complaining-loudly-about-crean?utm_source=news-update&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=2017-03-16#.WMst37Rx_Eo.email ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Not really 10-3 non conference 13-5 conference one win in BTT and 1 win in the NCAA tourney. With our resources looks very reasonable. For some coaches a down year. Hoosier82 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I am thinking the talk concerning Fife is to bring him in as an assistant. Fred said it himself that there was going to be a good budget for assistants as well. It is time to do the plucking for assistant coaches rather than being plucked. mark1981 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I was just listening to idiots on the Radio in Louisville. Said IU fans were the most delusional fan base in the area and we are not close to an elite program. I would argue that what makes you elite is a combination of a elite fan base (check), elite facilities (check), elite money (check), and elite coach (TBD). All we need is a coach. The talent and winning will return. They make it sound as if it is impossible to improve our situation and that it is a zero sum game. Only KY, UofL, Duke, NC, etc. can be elite and how dare we even try. Pisses me off!!!! CR3AMnCR1MS0N, Chris Nieman and Bowhunter 3 Quote

For context, Bob Knight only won 25 or more games 8 out of 29 seasons at Indiana... let's keep our expectations reasonable haha. (I know they played fewer games earlier on in his time at IU, but you get my point.) Quote
