There is no obvious cultural mold to which Crean adheres in evaluating recruits.

This pisses me off so much. Why poison the well like that?

People…please stop referencing the buyout and when it drops. If Crean somehow stays, the buyout will have nothing to do with it.

Waiting absolutely screwed us.  If we would have made the change when we should have, Stevens would be coach here right now and I highly doubt he would have left IU to take the Boston job right after taking the IU job.  I could be wrong on that, but really don't think I am.

Meh agree to disagree there. If Stevens never went to the NBA, who knows if he would have jumped later. But if we did it back then, and didn't land Stevens, the other names we heard a lot were Shaka and Marshall... yikes.

I live right outside Raleigh.  No one here would want Crean's plane even landing at RDU.  Scary thought.

I am talking about the Season he left Butler to go to Boston.  Stevens said IU was his dream Job.  If we would have fired Crean and offered Stevens, he would absolutely be our coach.  Actually, I just looked it up and Stevens left a season earlier than I initially thought but even still, Crean should have been fired after the embarrassment that was Syracuse anyway so the timeline still fits.  And I would take Marshall over anyone not named Stevens, Donavon, Wright, Pitino (Rick), that is on our somewhat realistic list.  

I agree though, Shaka is terrible!

Yep. Crean will trick some AD to giving him 1.3 million a year.  The Buyout is moot.

I think Stevens would be the coach as well. I still think it could happen though. But if it doesn't, there are other great coaches that IU can get

First let me apologize for stealing your handle.  I had been stalking this site for years but never signed up until I was forced to today in order to read the posts.  I chose Hoosier in NC as I live outside of Winston-Salem.  Second, I had a feeling NCSU was going to fire Gott and was afraid they would go after Archie, who is towards to the top of my list to replace Crean.

Then my worrisome personality transitions to the hope that we don't blow another coaching hire.

I'm really concerned that Glass may botch the next hire. There is literally zero precedent to suggest that he can make a big splash hire. He is a wonderful AD but I question his judgement. That Crean extension was awful and completely unnecessary. Seems that Crean finessed him into the extension. Not saying he can't make the big hire. Just saying I'm nervous bc I haven't seen him make any other big splashes outside of fundraising.

Crean would have received an extension following the 2012-13 season for winning the conference. We'd be in a worse position now if Glass didn't give him it when he did, unfortunately.
