I think something has to for sure. Most likely short term extension, in my opinion. But yeah we'll tank in recruiting if he has 3 years left on the contract this summer.

Stevens would be tough to sway away from Boston. He loves it there, he loves the Puzzle of the NBA game. Thing is, he hasn't even had a great enough roster to do anything with yet. I can't imagine what he could do if Danny Ainge put a really good roster together.

I imagine Crean will be here until at least 2019. We can't offer an extension to him however unless he lands some amazing recruits and or gets us to the championship game. He hasn't deserved a second extension.

We simply can't afford Glass to offer an extension. To say it will hurt recruiting doesn't concern me, we've been striking out in free agency for the past two years. It doesn't look like it's going to get any better either

I dont think Crean has to be fired to leave IU. He can save face by taking another job bc he wasnt getting an extension. If he isnt being extended, then he knows he needs to make a move.

I've thought about it like this but I think Crean's ego is too big. The only way I see it happening is if Glass tells Crean that he'll be fired if he doesn't leave.

To me timing is such a big issue with Stevens and why I dont have my heart set on getting him. IF (big if) you fire Crean after the season around the first part of April the NBA season is still going on for a good while. Just dont see us waiting around til May or June to hire a coach.

I dont see IU firing Crean after the NCAA season to wait for Stevens. They would wait until the Celtics/NBA season is over amd then remove Crean. Is it coincidence that the buyout drops after the NBA season and not the NCAA? just a thought.

Coincidence. July 1st is the beginning of the academic year which is likely how IU runs their budgets.

dont have any reason to believe there is anything to it regarding Stevens BUT IF Stevens did have a clause in his contract for IU and IU wrote a contract to align with Stevens nba season, that is crazy!

That is the scenario I see but i dont understand what good a 2 to 3 year extension does other they delay the inevitable even longer. How many years is the cycle going to continue? I jyst sont understand what will be any different if we keep him. He is not going to suddenly change.

I know this has been a rumorfor years and it seems like such a made up thing and I always hear this but, does anyone really know if Stevens has a clause in his contract?

He used to until this past summer when Ainge gave him the extension, they took it out. The comment was made from Ainge along the lines of --now we can put to rest all those IU rumors-- when it was announced.

He seems pretty enthused by it when talking about the team pre season and in the press.

Edit: In other news, Crean continues to try to sell this team as a top team. No Crean, we're not a top team.
