mdn82 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 This was Glass' hire and he knows what needs to happen after talking a big game. If Archie fails Glass is gone. If Archie succeeds Glass and Archie will be known as the ones who brought IU back to greatness. Archie has star potential but has to achieve it now. It should be a fun ride regardless. Yep. No matter the coach there would be a section of fans upset at the hire. This is a stronger reaction than I expected from rival fan bases of collectively shitting themselves. I haven't seen anyone outside of here make fun of the hire or think it was downright stupid. Dayton fans are beside themselves he left. Taking my own Crimson goggles off that reaffirms my belief this was a good hire.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app mark1981, ALASKA HOOSIER and FortWayneHoosier 3 Quote

One Illinois fan named this board and Brass Cannon specifically questioning why he and a few fans were mad about it. They didn't understand why we'd be upset. Hardwood83 Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 So Glass said Archie was "on his short list from the beginning" If that is true it is extremely disappointing. Miller has done a few nice things - but a main target? I read somewhere else that Donovan said he was never contacted by IU. Glass needed a professional search firm to tell him a mid-Major coach is the main target and a 2 time NC coach doesn't deserve a call? Again, IF that is true, it is embarrassing and malpractice by the AD. Fire Glass Hope the best for Archie, but he isn't a big time hire. Scooter D, AZ Hoosier and Trish 3 Quote
Trish Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Glass needs to go along with Archie if they fail in 7 years.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app I say 2-3yrs max. If Miller is the best coach available and is getting paid like a top performer then we should expect results. Not in 5yrs, right away. If not then they should go out together. I hope Miller's buyout isn't ridiculous. AZ Hoosier, Scooter D, Trish and 2 others 5 Quote

If we are looking at it in terms of how we handled the contract/position with Crean, then I think by year 3-4 we have to be ready to give extension or evaluate if we want to continue in this direction going forward. In other words same situation we faced this year. Extend or fire. And honestly, firing Crean probably would have been done last year had we not won the B1G Ten and Crean won COY based on Glasses reaction to not giving Crean an extension after last season with what he accomplished. Brass Cannon Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 I say we give Miller 4 years. Glass on the other hand I give 2 years for something dude needed a home run. Not double that could turn into something. Quote
Bowhunter Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 I'm not saying this is a bad hire but I would like to know why we gave him 7 years and 4 mill. Archie either has an outstanding agent or Glass is a moron . I could see 5 years and 3 mill. I always thought Crean was over paid and extended way to far out. Archie could end up being a great hire not only for the present but for the future. I would just like to see a list of who was 1,2,3,4 etc and see how far down the list he was and who turned us down. WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Glass likes IU to be top 10 in all metrics BB related. It allows him to say we are a top 10 program. Coach Salary is the easiest metric to control. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BtownBanners mobile app I think part of it is he had to be wowed. He has turned down multiple jobs. Glass had to get his man. I think everyone gets too caught up in how much people get paid in an open market. If Glass didn't pay to get his man people would be going nuts. He isn't looking at a sheet of how much every coach makes, how much the taxes are in those states and says, "Archie needs to be the 17th best paid coach based on upside and desirability." Sorry this isn't all to you Bow. It's just if this were Donovan and we offered $10 mill people wouldn't bat an eye. Even though he would be the top paid coach in spite of not being the best. I 100% do not understand why anyone gets caught up in what he makes in an open market. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Dalton26 1 Quote
