But nah, he's more worried about being a stand up guy with morals then actually using Xs and Os to adjust to his players strengths. Sorry, I'll get off my anti-Crean soapbox now. Uwe Robb Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I've been worried about that for a while actually. I hope it doesn't happen because the kid is going to be a player, but as the season goes on it seems more and more likely. The end of today's game definitely doesn't help. I have been saying since early non conference that DG should be getting most of JN's mins. They both make a couple dumb turnovers a game but DG's offense is much better with higher upside. He is true freshmen and will only get better. Especially with much needed game experience. It is JN's 4th year in college ball counting transfer year. 2nd w/ Crean developing him. Has he hit ceiling or no? If he starts all year this year and next year over DG then I definitely worry about DG transferring.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Alford Bailey 1 Quote

The Ola Depot Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Green's got to be in Crean's doghouse. I don't know what else would explain him sitting so much of the 2nd half after how he played in the 1st. Wonder how he would've acted if another player threw the lob. I remember after the Michigan game a few years ago at home when they were #1 Vic threw down a dunk at the end with no one on the other end. Granted it was after the buzzer, but wouldn't the same moral standards still apply. I don't know if he didn't see it but there was no chewing about that. Napleshoosier 1 Quote

And yes I can see DG transferring. Quote

Not for terrible calls, not for Bryant whining all the time, not for Blackmon losing his man every other possession, but for Devonte trying to get a guy who never plays a dunk. L O freaking L. Crean made it a far bigger deal than it was, imo. Yeah Green shouldn't have done it but if he was wanting to show Rutgers up he would've pulled up for a three. McSwain hadn't played all game and I honestly believe Green just wanted to create a highlight reel play for McSwain and give him something to boost his confidence. I don't think Green did it with any malice intended, he just wanted to make a play for a buddy. It would have been a perfect teaching moment for Crean. Pull Green aside after the game, be like "look, I get that you were just looking to make a play for a teammate who doesn't get many opportunities, but that's not something we do here at the end of a game when we have a big lead. Dont do it again" and send Green on his way. Maybe make him run a little extra at their next practice. The message would've gotten across to him. Instead, he decided to blow a gasket, run onto the court and completely explode on the kid. There's no need to embarrass Green like that in front of thousands of people in Assembly Hall, and all the people nationwide who are going to see it now. If you're that angry at him wait till you get behind closed doors and go off on him. The fact Crean hasn't shown emotion like that all season long makes it 10x worse for me. With all the things that have happened this season, a freshman throwing a lob to a guy who spends most of every game glued to the bench is when he decided to get mad? Not to mention Crean didn't take his starters out of the game until there was about 1:30 left. Some people would consider that a form of showing up the opponent. 323SGrant, VO5, reconmkd and 2 others 5 Quote

I think Green's lack of playing time is a perfect example of Crean understanding basketball and substitutions better than anyone else. It's the substitution that's not obvious that matters. This whole situation is so Crean. I'm all for "respecting the game and opponent" and not showing them up. However, Crean seems to be inconsistent in his message to the team. It's cool to- turn the ball over- not defend- take bad shots- make dumb playsBut throwing an oop at the end of the game will get you ripped in front of a national audience. That makes perfect sense. Uspshoosier Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 The only good thing about a Rutgers win for IU is that instead of being 3-6 against rpi top 150, IU is now 4-6. My first of 3 games to go to this year so it's always nice to see them win when u attend. Green shouldn't of done what he did but it's not the end of the world that he tried it. It just shows they difference in some of the basketball programs. Same situation happen yesterday with Virginia up 7 on Clemson and Virginia threw it long to a freshman Kyle guy. He had a chance to go in for a dunk if he wanted but without hesitation he dribbled under the basket and around to run out the clock. Some say green will learn from this and not make the same mistake again. Guy must of already learned the etiquette elsewhere ( probably because he played high school ball in Indiana) sarcasm button pushedSent from my iPhone using BtownBanners KingPG21 and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Uspshoosier Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Notre dame game was a neutral court game against a team with a pulse and a possible tournament team at the time. This game was at home against Rutgers. I don't feel they are even remotely close. Unless I missed u hitting the sarcasm button.
