Class of '66 Old Fart

(2018) PF Jake Forrester to IU

His first class isn’t even close to on campus so what are you talking about? Were you expecting 2 titles or 3 before his first year was up?

No, but seeing Purdoo's football coach go into a situation with terrible recruits and players yet winning a bowl game makes me wonder why it's so difficult for our basketball team to have success this year.

That can only be a loose comparison at best, and one year on the job is only a preview. It doesn't guarantee long term success or failure.

Oh my goodness.

Football and basketball are so very, very different in that respect.

An effective scheme and play calling coach in football can do some amazing things in a hurry. In basketball it’s so much harder to have an immediate turnaround.

Besides, that “huge turnaround Purdue football coach” finished his first season at 7-6, 4-5 in conference. Archie Miller’s first IU team is currently 8-6, 1-1 in conference.

Disagree strongly. But I'm not going to cloud this recruiting thread.

Come on man by this logic CAM is one of the best coaches in the NCAA and I don’t believe that currently either. The 3 best players that happen to be professional players are not on this team and we are keeping pace with what we did with them. Loose parallel but it’s there. I don’t agree with it as much as I would hope you wouldn’t agree with the PU football one.

Come on. If so easy why did Purdue hire two guys before the current coach who were terrible? It is not an easy process to find a new coach and even when you do it is not common that the new coach will have instant success.

:120:This team doesn't have the right makeup to be good this year. McRoberts is a walk-on and out performing scholarship guys and that's a problem.

I understand your point but cannot believe this. We have a good amount of talent and experience on this team, they just haven't put in maximum effort each game and they haven't excelled in Archie's new system yet.

Can he get them to play with effort on every play in every game and play within themselves and the system? If he can we should be a tourney team, just unlikely based on what we have seen and the 6 early losses.

Point being, I don't think it is a lack of talent or lack of guards or bigs etc, we have the team to win 18 games

How is it not a lack of talent? We lost 3 professional players off a NIT team.

I'm sorry but this team has some of the worst basketball IQ I've seen from a team. Newkirk and Johnson are very inconsistent at shooting and they make horrible decisions with the ball that lead to TO's and I haven't even mentioned their defensive effort. Our bigs are all undersized other than Davis and Morgan and Davis is really slow and struggles to stay out of foul trouble. You can believe what you want but this team isn't very good.

Look at our roster. We have a team full of role players. We have no shooting, and our center plays soft the majority of the time. Like someone said above, we lost our 3 best players off a team that lost in the first round of the NIT. If you want to look at the recruiting rankings then sure we have a good amount of talent, but recruiting rankings are meaningless once a kid steps on campus.

Crean never recruited high iq guys with a very few exceptions when zeller was around.

It was an nit team because of coaching. A decent coach would of had those guys in the ncaa easily.
