  2. I got 4 tickets 2 rows up on the baseline…neat chance for my boys to see the new team up close for a reasonable price. I saw they posted and autograph session afterwards!

  3. Don't let anyone tell you the reason IUFB has been so good is due to the NIL. He talks about taking a pay cut going to IUFB instead of UGA or Miami. We really have Alberto to thank for helping the decision process. Great interview overall and a wonderful look inside his process and current day to day.

The World Cup has been great all around. The US team played good except for Belgium. A B for them and hopefully they can build off it. The game experience A’s all around. I think having games in cities like Indy where you could enjoy a walk to several pubs/bars after could have made it an A+. The international fans experience has been awesome. Many expressed great enthusiasm for outreach country and it was great to see how people are great when you get politics out of things and just enjoy different cultures and their people. And the best part, it provided a fun distraction while we wait for our version of football. What a great summer. Let’s land a local 5* receiver, start summer camp (we have that right?) and get this 3.0 version of Cignetti ball started.

  7. In football, the 1’s practice against the 1’s. Obviously, you can’t do that in basketball practice.

  10. So we could get to 12-8 or 11-9 in conference 8 seed bball team while having a top ten, national champion - major contender football team? 100% signing up for that deal.

  11. We are in the classic summer IUBB hype cycle. I’m curious if Burton is just very good… or is bad defense part of it? On the football side, we usually hear how the offense struggles against the D in spring and fall camp. Different sport, just an observation. Of course we won’t know until the season starts… I just wonder what the defense looks like in these scrimmages.

  12. It appears we have an offer out to virtually the entire Prolific Prep roster. In response to a question about McDaniel, Raby reported he does indeed have an offer and Verbal Commits indicates we offered on June 12. Not sure how it's not been picked up by any of the usual sources. Listed as a 6'7" SF. 247 and On3/Rivals haven't started to yet rank the '29 class. 13. “Markus Burton – Burton continues to show why he was such a productive player over the last three seasons at Notre Dame. He’s a willing distributor who gets where he wants with the ball ” I like to see that. He probably needs to be more of a facilitator than scorer on this team.

  14. I still feel like we're missing a depth big man. After Yigitoglu and Sherrell we don't have another player who can play the 5 if foul trouble or injuries occur. Sokolov isn't even on campus and being a freshman I can't imagine him seeing any serious pt this year and if he does we're probably in big trouble. I know we weren't adding any proven production at that spot but just someone with size and experience at the D1 level would've been what we needed there. Or heck someone with size and experience at the D2 or NAIA level would've been nice. Leaving a scholarship open just seems really dumb to me, especially after how we suffered from lack of depth last season.

There it is. The team I follow and my backup team playing in Bloomington which I haven’t gotten back to in 15 years in what should be a genuinely interesting game. I’ll be there.

  19. The fact that he had Warren Sapp as a coach tells you all you need to know. The dude was blacked out drunk in the parking lot before the national championship game and his friends were equally, if not more blacked out. One of the friends came up to me (again absolutely hammered), and told me that he knows Sapp is a celebrity, but it doesn't give me the right to bother him. I'm like dude, I haven't been within 50 feet of the guy.

  20. I’m surprised people still get sucked in, but they do. I’ll say this about Burton: 1) I don’t think his defense is bad per se, but he’s played on bad/soft ND teams so who knows. He *shouldn’t* be bad in a scheme with two 7 footers behind him. He and Sherrell are our two most talented players and have legit question marks surrounding them. For me, for Burton it is if he can be more than a jitterbug bucket-getter and settle into a facilitator role both with dishes to the bigs and kickouts to shooters. What I have learned over the years is pre-season (and often in season) criticism isn’t received well on message boards. If I wanted to pick apart these summer basketball reports you usually look for the dog that isn’t barking and I’d start with: Mustaf - his fit was already a little suspect and it’s probably not great he isn’t standing out more in these practices give the athleticism he displayed on film Harris - Maybe he’s a diamond in the rough or maybe its not great sign for our overall talent level that Dukes 9/10th man has stood out as our 4/5th best player Sisley - I want to believe, but a 4* guy poised for a breakout season should probably be putting it on everybody not named Sherrell in some scrimmages. Instead it sounds like progress is a little slower and he’s a slightly improved version of last years end of the rotation player. Happy now? ….lol I do think that if Burton and Sherrell are their best versions of projected (and Yigi is solid) we’ll be able to compete up and down the B1G even given the above, especially with May gone.

  21. God, that is brutal. But, hey, Prime switched out both coordinators so I’m sure that will be one tighta$$ ship this year.

  22. Yeah, Burton is being paid like one of our two best players, so he should be able to get what he wants against guys like Lindsay and Harris in practice. IUBB writers are like astrology columnists in your local paper for me at this point. Nothing but vibes. Which I guess is what they're there for anyways. Just not putting any stock in reports of the team looking good in July or not. I'll wait and see how they look at the start of the season and in January.

    World Cup

Here’s three guys who clearly state it took away from the game for them. The last three US National Team head coaches, one of whom has his son on the current team, should apparently “check their pulse:” "When it starts going into levels of FIFA and the president is calling ... come on, it's ruining our game," said Bradley, who coached the U.S. at the 2010 World Cup. "I'm sorry." "We can't get to the point where the integrity of the game is totally thrown out the window. When FIFA handles it the way they did and puts out different statements to try and cover themselves, the game loses." Gregg Berhalter, who coached the U.S. at the 2022 World Cup and has a son, Sebastian, on the roster, was most direct in stating that the scandal had a potentially negative effect on Monday's game. "It was a strange decision, really unprecedented in a tournament," Berhalter said. "I think it could have inspired and motivated Belgium. Because now all the chips were against them ... I think it could have hurt our position a little bit." Bruce Arena, who coached the U.S. at the World Cup in 2002 and 2006, has been steadfast in his opinion that Balogun committed "a bad tackle" that could have broken the Bosnian players' ankle. In Arena's eyes, the only question was whether it was a yellow or red card and any retroactive suspension was "a mistake" that potentially made it look like FIFA was supporting the U.S. soccer team. "Those are the rules of the game by which we all play," Arena said. "I don't blame U.S. soccer or, I guess, the president calling FIFA and trying to get it overturned, and I guess he did. But I think it was bad for the game."

Reading? No. Condescension? Yes. You seem to be concerned only with the outcome while minimizing the process it took to get there, you are certainly entitled to that opinon. And I agree the outcome was correct. But with a political leader openly touting putting his thumb on the scales, the process was at best not very transparent and at worst shady. I don't think it's outrageous for people to be questioning it.

I am a fan of following the established rules, which do not ever incoprorate a morning of the next match review of referee-issued red card. Bad calls are part of the game. Sometimes bad calls stand when they are not corrected during the game through the established methods. This would be the equivalent of appealing a hockey penalty after the game was over, and only after a political leader made a personal call to the head of the leauge, who that political leader has a personal and financial relationship with. So I'll stick with ... the red card was a bad call, and the reversal of it was really bad too. I'll go one farther - the red card reversal absolutely killed part of the joy for the US: That young US team had to deal with tons of non-game pressure and repeated interview questions about non-game issues. And then they came out flat as a pancake. Coincidence? Maybe - maybe not. Belgium is a top ten team that had underperformed until the US game. After they felt they were wronged? They played truly inspired soccer. Definitely not concidental - they ended their fourth and clinching goal with a team dance in the manner of who they felt they'd been wronged by. The reversal took the edge off of the hyper-pride by some (not all) US fans. Of course all still rooted for their country, but some felt kind of awkward about the whole incident; even those that felt the red card was an abomination (count me as thinking it was).

  37. I have no idea about the NIL/donor situation, but IU sure seemed to run out of $$ for basketball. Obviously not the defending NC's, but still a dynamic wing and solid back-up PG & C and we're looking at a likely legit top 15 team. Again, not exactly apples to apples, but not sure the well is as deep as we might hope.
