  1. When your inviested in a flawed team and program for that matter these are the kind of ups and downs you are going to get. Everybody has played somebody when they were coming off a pause or had kids be out. That’s just part of how this season will play out. IU has a high 4 star to 5 star fan base that right now in this point in time is emotionally invested in watching a high 3 star to low 4 star program. It is what it is. You are going to get great results one day and lay eggs the next. There was a reason IU was picked to finish between the 6-8 range in the B1G. Culture, Culture, Culture. Until IU gets kids in the program that actually want to change this mindset this is what this program is going to be. Sucks for the older posters that have seen this machine running a maximum output and sucks for the younger poster that have only heard about it. Unfortunately when most programs fail with a hired coach they just can’t pick up where he left off and get things rolling but they have to start back to square and IU’s square 1 for along time is middle of the pack B1G. Expecting a middle of the pack B1G team to win on the road without key players is a hard ask. The days of seeing Northwesterns and Penn St name on the schedule doesn’t mean automatic win anymore and hasn’t for a while. 15-45 road record for this program before the Northwestern game in the last 6 years. Program has a long way to go before they are able to absorbed a 5 player suspension and expect to win a road game. My hope like everyone’s else’s was that a coaching change would get the ball rolling and skip some steps in this long process of getting the program back to solid ground but that hasn’t happened. The horrible culture runs deep and probably deeper then any of us thought. Can’t remember the year but Green got suspended for a 3 game stretch right before some important tournament implication games and cost the team. A couple years later it happens in the program again Until the culture is changed you are going to get up and down results Hop on the train and hope for the best I’m sure most people on here are like me and have no choice but to watch. It’s in my blood to watch this program either succeed or fail no other option

  4. The most recent coaching search tells us where the brand is at now. We hired someone no other team in the conference would’ve hired, and someone we wouldn’t have hired if he didn’t play here 40 years ago. Some will cite his ‘experience,’ but it’s not like anyone in either college or the NBA was beating down his door to make him their head coach. Woody doesn’t look like the kind of coach who can win with mediocre talent. Most coaches can’t, so he’s not unique in that regard. But he’s not recruiting at a high enough level to make up for it. JHS looks nice, but Bates did too. He’s been a dud. In conference play he’s scoring 2.7 ppg on 24% from the field. Definitely not what I was expecting. JHS better be ready because the team will need him from day 1. We’re a middling team this season and have been a middling program for the past 15 years. Some will blame the fans, but the program should be happy that it still has fans at this point.

  7. Have no idea who will be available, so had to go with a complete guess. I guessed at Xavier Johnson and Tamar Bates being in the rotation, but not Durr, Lander, or Stewart since Durr and Stewart had already had basically two suspensions and it's obvious the staff is not in love with Lander. I started the five that started last game but X, Bates, and Geronimo all getting good minutes off the bench. Sims starting shockingly well....IU winning the first three somehow. Lost the next six, won the last. MSU won 6 of the 10 sims, average score Michigan State 67.7, Indiana 63.5. 9. Time and place. Fri night in the summer, have a good ol’ time with some brews or weed, if that’s your thing. But the night before a game is idiotic. Not only violating team rules, but from a physical standpoint. There’s 30 games a year. About half those are on the road. Being prepared and in bed on time the night before a game is the bare minimum level of discipline.

  12. Yes. I have no interest in arguing, and I’m frustrated when we lose or when players are suspended. I think we mostly all agree that 1. making the dance will make this year a success (especially coupled with the Purdue win in hand), and 2. that’s the beginning of program stabilization, not the end. We were never going to know if IU was “back” to being a top ten program, year-in and year-out, this year.

  13. Really just don't understand how people can pick out every single negative with the team and ignore anything positive. There has definitely been player development. Galloway is much much better than he was last year. Race's jumper has been inconsistent but he has still improved a lot. X before the dumb suspension looked like a brand new player. Tamar's shot hasn't been falling but he has looked much more comfortable on the floor. The defense has been much better. Nobody in their right mind thought this team was going to be a perfect championship contender so idk why people are acting like some of these issues weren't expected.

  16. Post-game from Seth Tow -- I asked Teri Moren if the timeline for Mackenzie Holmes was still for her to miss the rest of the regular season, and she said "I wouldn't say that. I think you'll see her back sooner than later." Moren said Holmes is on the court working with assistant coach Rhett Wierzba, not with the rest of the team yet, but she's doing more and more every day. Certainly sounds like Holmes could return before the end of the regular season. Teri Moren also expressed optimism about Nicole Cardaño-Hillary's ankle tweak that caused her to leave tonight's game in the 3rd quarter. "I think she'll be fine. She was walking on it."

Gotta leave the afternoons open for practice and traveling to games, at least in the pre-Zoom/pandemic/distance learning days.

  25. Love me some Gallo, his float game this season is much improved. Thinking of him in the starting lineup playing on the weak side if/when we get teams in rotation would be sweet to watch him attack the lane. I would love to see him develop a consistent shot in the off-season. He would be difficult to keep off the floor as another ball handler and all around player. Love me some Race, too. I wish his jumper was there as that stretch 4 but it hasn't been consistent. I believe his 3PT% is about the same. He does bring it though. That's definitely a foundation. I thought X was playing his best ball of the season with several all around games. He was keeping his head and making better decisions. Frustrating that he made a bad decision off the court. Could you explain what you saw with Bates? I was hoping he'd be further along by now. We could have really used a scoring punch off the bench. The defense has been better than last season, especially Trayce blocking shots. I'd like to see him being more selective there as we've given up second chance points to being a little over aggressive. In my right and wrong mind, I never expected this team to be a championship contender on a national or conference level. I was hoping we would see progress in certain areas throughout the season. We have cleaned up turnovers a ton, so kudos for that. We have struggled with several players over helping which has led to too many clean looks for my liking. We've struggled with consistent shooting at the line and from behind the arc. I'm still trying to figure out why IU struggles so much at the line for the last 5+ years. We've struggled with rebounding. We have player limitations, I get that and there is nothing that can be done mid-season with that. TJD isn't going to magically start stroking it from the outside, nor is Race. Kopp and P Stew aren't going to develop the ability to be play makers. They're not going to start defending at a high level either. So what can be done? We can start scheming to get P Stew more open looks while relieving pressure on TJD in the post. Those cuts through the paint when the ball is entered into the post can be crisp and with purpose. The lineup can be altered slightly to have Gallo starting and Kopp coming off the bench. Have him on the weak side looking to attack when the ball is swung. We can start forcing teams to defend and rotate. The Arch offense of entering into the post and standing does not work. I think we can all agree to that. We need to be more dynamic. We have some of the pieces to do that but we don't do it consistently enough. NU killed us on the offensive glass. If we rebound just a few of those we give ourselves a chance in that game. There was a period early in the second half where they had 3-4 offensive rebounds and went on a scoring run that buried us. That can't happen and it's fundamentals not personnel issues. We can and should be better at basic basketball. My hope for this season was that those would be improved upon. If those haven't improved we'll be looking to out talent teams in the future instead of creating a culture of fundamentals, e word, development, etc. Good teams have those and those can be instilled into a program. Not every program can go out and get top end talent every season.

  26. Exactly. Let's just get into the tournament this year, continue the very good recruiting we've already been doing and go from there. This thing was not going to be stabilized completely this year and I would say that making the tournament in year 1 of a coach would be pretty good

The seats were excellent The performance was world class There was a food and beverage reception before the show. Everything was delicious. The nation's top doctors were on call and when needed gave exceptional attention to all who needed it. In other words, the only (accurate) takeaways you attached to a long in-conference stretch of excellent results were out of line with the context of what ultimately happened.

What a weird weird show. But I'm so happy to have finally seen Tool live. It didn't match the hype, but I went into it hearing a lot of hype. Also, I think I reached that age where I'll probably buy two tickets to the left of me and two tickets to the right. No, really i might. Too many drunk jerkwads can ruin a show.

  36. I'd like to get an as comprehensive as possible definition of blue blood from the college basketball world. I believe we're still a blue blood. I don't believe we're anywhere close to being an elite program. The other blue bloods are still at that elite status. We'll eventually get back there.

  37. IU fans are mild, imho. We’ve made 4 tournaments in the past 13 years. Conference record over .500 three times in the past 13 years. Two sweet 16s. Zero elite 8s. How do Kentucky fans handle that? How do Duke fans? Kansas? UNC? We all know the answer. No blueblood program would put up with what we’ve put up with for more than a decade. We pride ourselves on “doing things the right way,” but there’s little honor in losing. Our team’s at home watching most years while the big boys flip the NCAA the finger and reap the rewards.

  43. I assume that is true road games (not neutral courts)? IMO, would be very beneficial for IU to start looking at a game or two non-conference against a couple mid majors. Comes with the risk of losing, but the lack of road experience before conference games is not good.

  44. My brain extrapolating. If Woodson fails where does Indiana turn in 3 years? Is the Indiana brand dead? Is it already dead. Is Woodson our last hope to remain/redeem Blue Blood status. Do we pay someone 8 mil a year to fix this mess. Do we fold and try to win football games and hire the next mid major savant? Can Woodson SOS? Inquiring minds need to know. Whatever Woodson and his very experienced staff has decided with this offense is straight offensive, and I’m offended. Stream of thought.
