  1. It was closer to 8 this morning for me to get some news but I'm changing from 80% Romeo to IU to 98% Romeo to IU. I think that will be the first shoe to drop of a Great IU summer.

  5. I'm 80% in with Romeo to IU. Nothing sourced just reading what everyone else is. I think EJ to UK is a sign that Vandy is out. Announcing at the NA gym is a good sign for IU, Coach SS info and what was said to the Watfords is all positive IU talk. So things could change but as of today, I'm saying Romeo to IU. As for the Watford info, there was a reason we didn't watch him for 38 games this high school season. It has all been worked out and we will be all over him this AAU season. But they called us to get the recruiting back flowing the right way. IUgradman can listen to Rabby & the Watfords all he wants to say IU is not in the lead but from the person or people recruiting him he is ours if we want him. The real question do we take Brooks and Watford because I believe we lead for both and we also I believe lead for TJD. The staff has had a plan for a while and it is falling into place.

  9. FWIW, I just received a text from a friend whose father-in-law is on the board of trustees. Claims Donovan (w/ Calbert as an assistant) is done and that an announcement may come as soon as tonight. Again, this is not confirmed, but the father-in-law's status is legit/confirmed (as he flies to all home games from Carmel), so I pay it some credence as it's consistent with what we all have been hearing....

  23. As an educator, this was the reason I wanted Romeo at IU. Look at this picture... in the most important moment of his 18 year old life, he takes time out of it to recognize a young fan (with his custom made jersey on it) to smile and give him a high five and a hand shake. It wasn't like the kid was on stage either... Romeo walked 10ft or so to get to the kid. Awesome. His character is his best attribute. Mr. Langford, enjoy your time in Bloomington.. you already have a huge fan in me.

  24. A friend sent me a screenshot of a post on another site that said this: "When Romeo was signing autographs after the Jennings County game, one of the kids gave him a paper folded in half to sign. After Romeo signed it, the kid opened it up and had printed out "Letter of Intent to Indiana University." Romeo cracked up and was about the only time he smiled the whole night after scoring 63 points." Thought that was awesome!

  26. The visit went well, according to the new Rabjohns article. Matthew's father, Rich, said that he thinks the biggest thing is the message that Matthew could go to Indiana and write his own story. He said that he thinks for them it is the amount of freedom he would have, and the ability to be the focal point. He also mentions that Matthew spent some time with Trayce Jackson-Davis at the final four. In the article, Rich also talks about another positive for IU in Race Thompson and how both families have a good relationship. They said that they are very impressed with how the Thompson's speak of the staff and the strength coach on the development of Race from a body and skill standpoint. Rabjohns says that Ostrom and the Hurt's talk pretty much daily, and that there is no timetable for a decision.

  28. My Lord. To read the ISU game thread, Archie Miller can't coach, Indiana may never win again, and we will lose every recruit that ever considered Indiana. Folks, Tom Crean left a bare cupboard. That's a simple reality. Josh Newkirk is a transfer. Kids transfer for reasons. Not many are overly positive. Freddie McSwain is a JUCO kid with hands like frying pans. Juwon Morgan is not a starter on any good team. Especially as a kid expected to rebound. Davis is in his first season with any real expectations on him. As recently as 9 months ago, Robert Johnson was considered something of a cancer along with Blackmon. Same with Green as Davis....expectations that are probably too high (and a kid who I don't think is anywhere NEAR ready for that kind of role) Hartman didn't play. We don't have shooters. We have a team of kids who need to break old, bad habits. We don't have a ton of talent. We don't have a ton of leadership. We don't have kids who know their roles. We don't have a single Miller recruit in the program (let that sink in). What did anyone expect this season to look like? Especially game 1? 6 weeks ago in a thread, I said 16-18 wins would be really good for this team. Many agreed. If 16-18 wins is good, 10-14 might be more of a reality. Here are some positives. We got to the FT line 33 times. We made 23. They shot 18. We forced 19 turnovers. Okay...that's really it; but the point is the same. This is a coach trying to play with another coach's recruits and players, playing with a completely new style, and a huge lack of depth and size. Few teams will shoot 17-26 from the 3 point line; and yes...I know our defense was bad. But for the love of God and all things holy, be realistic about where we are; and please stop with the incessant blaming of coaching for this loss or the way this team looks. That game had ZERO to do with Archie Miller and his outlook at Indiana.

  29. I was fortunate to witness Romeo play against TJD in the Seymour regional last night and wow that was a crazy experience! As for Romeo, I just can't imagine there is a better player in HS in the country than him. I was able to watch Eric Gordon play in HS against Greg Oden and Mike Conley and I can tell you Romeo is far and above a better player than those 3 mentioned when they were in high school. There's no doubt he'll be a household name similar to Trae Young next year...except he actually makes his team better. Definitely a one of a kind player and great kid. I live near CG so I have seen TJD play several times but it was something else seeing Romeo live in action. The seats filled up so fast I had to sit in the NA section and I got to talking to serval people from there and each one of them think IU is where Romeo will end up. Again, nobody knows for certain but that's what the NA feels at this point. I was surprised Bryce Drew didn't make an appearance and was glad to see that Archie brought out Ostrom and Flint and Phinisee to visit with Romeo...Let's hope this final push pays off BIG! As for TJD I can tell you that he and Brooks are super close and have a "pact" to play together in college. Both his parents are now pushing for IU....I also know from good source that Archie is the only one who has been keeping in contact with him recently and Izzo/MSU hasn't made contact in several months. TJDs mom went to IU and his stepdad has pushed for IU since the allegations at MSU came out...prior he was aboard TJD to MSU. Just thought I'd share my experience last night and info that I've heard here recently. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    Archie’s defense

So I was browsing the Reddit thread for our game last night and came across a tremendous post that I’m going to shamelessly put here. Apparently over the last 10 games we’ve had the 7th-best adjusted defensive efficiency in the country. Over that span, we’ve played MSU twice, OSU, and Purdue. Link: Adjusted D over last 10 games I thought that this was mind-blowing considering where we were at the start of the season. It provides some great perspective of where we’ll be when Archie gets some more guys with length and athleticism. The future looks bright.

  37. Once again IU made it known they were there tonight. Rob Phinisee being there for both games played a big role. Archie wants the Garland relationship to fall on the back burner. The last two weekends have shown him how much his potential future teammates support him and that was big. This is gonna be a fun few weeks. Also worth noting, got a text that said they overheard TJD congratulating Romeo & said, " please stay two years so we can play together". We made huge impressions all around the last 2 weeks. Archie isn't going down without a fight which with Garland he just gave up because he knew we weren't getting him so that makes these visits even better for my personal gut feeling.

  44. All over the national writers/talking heads is this notion that Indiana fans are these unreasonable rubes who just don't appreciate Tom Crean. Crean did a fine job and one that we appreciate. But he's had 9 years to establish that he can take Indiana back to an elite level. The trend lines are not looking good. It isn't just the up and down seasons, its that recruiting has taken a nosedive. The AD has done everything in its power to make sure IU has the facilities, the national exposure and revenue channels for Indiana to compete with the blue blood programs. The coach hasn't utilized these advantages to take us to the next level. Hoosier fans have been INSANELY patient. They knew it would take time to build back up again. But somewhere around Camp 3, progress stalled. There is a lot of distance between where we are and the summit. And we're gasping for air at this altitude. Bare with me here as I digress: I played hoops my entire life and didn't know crap until I went to school at Indiana. It infuriated me. I couldn't believe that grown men, who's job it was to teach the game, were so clueless compared to friends that I played with in the Hyper. I never had more fun in my life running ball at the Hyper. The basketball IQ of the average Indiana fan probably exceeds that a majority of the people who do it for a living. This isn't hyperbole either. And these are the people who are watching the Hoosiers at every step. They are far more involved than just watching games; they enjoy the process of a team, a program, being built. Because I love the game, I learned more and more about it from those who taught them. My basketball education started late, but I couldn't get enough. I still don't think I'm some swami. Not at all. But I do know smart basketball minds and Hoosier enclaves are loaded with them. But Midwestern values are at play, too. Hoosiers are gracious people. They are patient. They value closeness and loyalty. Yet, with their deep Hoops knowledge, their senses tell them that what they are watching clashes mightily with what they know is great basketball. They call BS when they see it. Even though they've had a critical eye on some odd on and off the court issues under Crean, most people weren't calling for his job. Nine years in, Crean has been given every opportunity to get to an elite level. The fans have been extraordinarily patient. This isn't just a blip year where a few things went wrong. Patterns have been established and the forward trajectory isn't up and to the right. Indiana Basketball has now into it's "malaise" phase. National writers are playing the role of Jimmy Carter, telling us that we worship the basketball equivalent of self-indulgence and consumption. That we're the problem. We're the ones making ourselves miserable with our unreasonable demands. If we'd put on and enjoy our Members Only jacket while celebrating our last National Championship, while being thankful that we have 5 years where we are only 2 games over .500 in the B1G. That this is as good as its gonna get. Hoosiers aren't reacting well to this condescension. And the VAST majority are conducting themselves with class. They're used the supposed sophisticates talking down to them. But they don't back down. They never have, and never will. Crean isn't just representative of someone they refuse to accept, he's also unfairly the vessel for national writers who want Indiana to accept that the glory days of banners and national competition are far behind them. This isn't anything personal to Crean (for most people). Indiana fans are tired of watching their high school All-Stars throttle their southern neighbors every year. Then we watch them all migrate to wearing blue and white vs cream and crimson to play college ball. We not only want those players playing here, we want to be playing that game WHEREVER it can happen EVERY year. They're tired of being told by others they can't compete anymore. Sorry Tom, but you're the man at the top who could have changed this a long time ago. You aren't some factory worker making middle class wages, who will struggle to put food on the table without a job and health care for you and your family. You are the highest paid state employee and the 8th highest paid coach in all of college basketball. The results are in. We refuse to accept this "malaise." We know it can and WILL be better.

    TOM CREAN FIRED

Crean deserves a TON of credit for what he's done and I hope no fan hates Crean. He dug us out of the crap hole Sampson put us in and actually did make us relevant again. I, for one, will always have massive amounts of respect for Crean because of what he did. I know everyone wanted him to be the guy to win championships and be here forever but it just isn't unfolding like that. The problem is he hasn't been able to sustain success and it's pretty clear we've seen the best of Crean and his best can't get past the Sweet 16. He's had damn good teams, he's had time but things are regressing - it's time for a change. Thank you, Tom Crean but that'll do. I also hope that if Crean ever ends up on an opponents bench in Assembly Hall that he's greeted with a standing ovation - he deserves it.

  47. I fully expect Romeo to deliver his decision thustly: "Roses are red. Violets are blue. "It ain't Kansas or Vandy. Baby, it's IU." or "Roses are red. Potatoes are starchy. "Don't wanna play for Bill or Bryce. It's all about Archie." or "Roses are red. Bozo's a clown. "Who wants Lawrence or Nashville? I'm goin' to B-Town." or "Roses are red. I ain't got no gripes. "My wardrobe of choice? Those sweet Candy Stripes." Drops mic.
