On the Beilein topic, he’s obviously doing a great job at Michigan, but I think as we look at IU/Archie and have so many conversations about how long it should take him to get things rolling, Michigan had great patience with Beilein. Michigan knew they had their guy and they gave him time, and now it’s paid off. His first 5 seasons at Michigan Beilein went 92-77, missing the tournament twice and never getting past the 2nd round. Im not saying it should take Archie 5 years, just saying if you think you have “your guy”at a program, patience and giving him time to develop the program/culture are huge.

just had this conversation with someone, but has there ever been a player at IU in any sport more overlooked/under appreciated than Cahill? It is possible she finishes her career as the #2 all time scorer (more that likely ends 4th if we make the final,but 2 is a possibility), #2 all time rebounder, and #4 in blocks. It can be argued that she is the 2nd best player in the history of the program, and all we hear about is Tyra. Obviously Tyra is the best one to play here, and has career records for scoring, assists and steals, but what Cahill has done deserves to be celebrated as well.

10+ None of those teams are of the caliber of Duke or Villanova (and I suppose even Kansas). Michigan is close because they are peaking. Cincy may have been close, but Loyola played a Kansas St team who just happened to beat them a week ago. It doesn't translate to beating Cincinnati. I root for the underdog as much as anyone else. But, and I hate saying it, they just don't have the horses. If they make me eat crow I'll gladly take a heaping serving of it with more crow on the side. Using specific D1 college players to prove a point about most D1 college players is incredibly ignorant. 90% of players in D1 aren’t good? Lol that’s just a laughable statement. D1 players are probably in the top 1-2% of players in the world.

Sometime back I made a comment about how important the play of Yeaney and Penn has been over the latter part of the season. Yeaney has been remarkably consistent all season long at grabbing 5 reb./game. Through the first 27 games of the season she reached double digits in scoring in just 8 games. She's reached double digits in 6 of our last 7 games. Penn too has been very consistent in grabbing 5 reb./game. She's reached double digits in scoring in 6 of our last 8 games having reached double digits in just 10 of our first 26 games. The uptick in scoring from the freshmen really helps relieve the pressure on Buss and Cahill for our points.

I definitely get the talent discussion. If we were just watching for the talent aspect of it there is no comparison. I definitely don’t watch it for that reason. The pure madness of a team like Loyola elevating their play to make a final four. Butler and Wichita St of the world becoming a household name just from different tournament runs. In the NBA there are very few upsets. Most years you have one maybe two teams that can win a title. The quality is fantastic so I watch both. This seemed very fishy considering the line was FSU +4.5 and Hamilton tells his players to back off only down 4 with 11 seconds left. That's an eternity. Virginia was down 4 to Louisville with 0.9 seconds left AND WON! Either Hamilton is absolutely clueless or he bet his entire contract on FSU +4.5. His post game interview when asked about it didn't help matters either...I gotta feeling more is gonna come from this interview. He acted like he got caught shaving points and got flustered. If they had any real information it would be out in the public. I think that is fairly obvious. I don't have an issue with how they make their money. It's a really good hustle actually. But if you are going to hold yourself out as an "expert", you better expect to have that questioned. Whether or not there is a model is irrelevant. No one cares how they internally rank themselves after the fact. Everyone just looks at their predictions on unsigned recruits, which is a hodgepodge of long held predictions and last second changes.

Those are just a few. There's a few others around the state that could still jump to Big Ten level by the time they graduate as well. This class has a chance to be absolutely loaded if they keep developing.

Except they completely misrepresent the 247 expert rankings model that rewards picks the longer they’ve been held. I get everyone likes to take swipes at the recruiting experts, but 1) they’re just a bunch of college hoops junkies like everyone here who found a way to get paid for their addiction and 2) they do usually have way more information than the general population Sounds like this guy has been reading the board and translating it to articles haha. I agree with you...somewhat. Were our fans screaming for Beilein in '06? The one's who understood what he had done to resuscitate a stone dead UWV while maintaining a perfectly clean program might well have been. Most didn't understand. But those involved in the hiring decision did. And instead opted for a guy who was under sanctions. And they knew that when they hired him. Nobody was screaming for Sampson either. The Administration wasn't somehow tied to him. They could have hired anyone. Their job was to get it right. If they didn't have the foresight to hire Beilein, fine, but it didn't require foresight to not hire a Coach who was dirty.

You could replace Loyola Chicago with at least 10 other teams. I'm not sure there's a basketball program in the country with as much potential that's been as badly managed for as long as ours has.

I'm actually the exact same. I think college basketball for the most part is of pretty poor quality when it comes to actual basketball talent. The NBA is the most entertaining sports league to watch for me, the guys at the top of the sport are so insanely skilled it is a marvel to watch every night. My only two exceptions are the conference tourneys and NCAA tournament. Otherwise I don't really watch outside of IU playing

I love the tournament. Talent level in the NBA is way better, but if you could argue every game is a Game 7 in the tourney. Fun times. Don’t get why people constantly make NBA versus NCAA arguments.
