Saw an interesting theory that not only is moving to the SEC a really bad *football* business decision, but OU royally screwed Riley's alma mater and hometown in the process. Maybe it wasn't the reason he left, but it might have made his decision a little easier.

I doubt he's scared of coaching in the SEC per se, but I'm not sure the expectations of the OU fanbase or money people change even though winning 10-11 games every year becomes nearly impossible. That job may not have been stable even for Riley in 4 years.

It's starting to be reported that DeBoer is likely the guy at Washington. Big time hire for them. The Pac12 is getting really interesting.

Kinda weird. Just a couple years ago, he was on the rise and we were on the rise. Now, he's about to take over what once was one of the nation's elite programs. And we ... are the B1G's worst team.

Announcement as early as tomorrow according to Pete Thamel and then Fickel definitely going to ND according to…me lol. This carousel is bonkers.

Doesn’t Kelly to LSU seem like a pretty bad temperament fit? I get why he’d want it, but he’s never seemed like the kind of guy who’s wired to get his balls busted by the rube nation every time he loses.

Oh, and Fickel to ND is too perfect to actually happen, right?

I always heard that Kelly was annoyed at ND because boosters just lived in his undercarriage and going to LSU solves……..none of that. 
 

The only thing I see Fickell waiting on is to see if Day jumps to the NFL, which is being mumbled in some corners. Can’t wait too long though.

I'm wondering if he thinks it'll be easier to build the kind of roster he wants at LSU. ... Though I don't recall him using the "it's too hard to get kids into Notre Dame" crutch. Maybe he has, but if so -- I don't remember.

I have a cousin who is a dept. head at ND and he's repeatedly told me that Kelly has never had the love that Holtz and Parseghian had and rubs a lot of (important) people the wrong way.  Also, he's suffered pretty bad losses in some pretty big games.

I think Fickell will be a good hire for ND.

Don’t forget about Matt Campbell at ND either. Fickell almost certainly gets the first call, but if he flinches for a shot at OSU or because of the CFP, Campbell will be alllllll over that.

Maybe its because my age, but I don't really think of ND as a big program, and he has had them near or in the CFP really consistently. Things were really bad for a decent bit before him. I guess the higher ups see it differently. But I don't see ND having this incredible prestige. 

 

And yah I know people probably say this about our basketball program all the time

These moves really show that you can’t worry about hiring a guy because you think he’ll use you as a stepping stone. Even programs as historic as Notre Dame and Oklahoma are getting their coaches poached. Gotta just hire the best coach you can and let the chips fall.

I think Fickell will be a good hire for ND. 

I believe Fickell was waiting until his kids were done with high school to take another job. His daughter played basketball with a friend's daughter who is a Junior in high school so may have another year unless ND job takes precedent.
