FSU manhandled a good LSU team on a neutral field. Alabama needed a hail Mary to beat a below average Auburn team, in the last game of the season. The SEC, regardless what ESPN says, wasn't a very good conference this year. You penalize an undefeated P5 team, because 1 starter, out of 22(although most important position) is not available. The talent level on FSU is equal to any team in the playoffs. Their defense is damn good.

You forgot the 23rd player: money. FSU and the ACC don't bring in as much money as Alabama and the $EC. That's the most important player to the committee.

So true!

I will add that I hope Alabama gets absolutely destroyed in their game. I mean, I'd want that anyways but now I really want it to happen. Make the decision look that much worse.

I don't think of it as rooting for Michigan (I don't think I could do that), but more of rooting against Alabama and the committee.

I don't like FSU and I totally expected this to happen but it still pisses me off.

You’ve got a 12-1 SEC champion with the 5th best strength of schedule who just dethroned the undefeated 2x defending champ versus the undefeated ACC champion with the 55th best strength of schedule and a third-string quarterback. One team being 13-0 doesn’t automatically mean they’re better than the 12-1 team. It stinks for FSU, but I don’t think an argument can be made that they’re one of the four best teams in the country.

Does a 12-1 SEC team, automatically mean they're better than a 13-0 ACC team, who beat 2 SEC teams? 1 away, and 1 on a neutral field

That fact you don't think an argument can be made, that FSU is one the four best teams in the country, is absurd. There are plenty arguments that say differently. Plus, they're the only team in the top 8, to lose at home.

FSU coach -- understandably -- not a happy man ...

Statement from FSU coach Mike Norvell on the CFP's decision

"I am disgusted and infuriated with the committee’s decision today to have what was earned on the field taken away because a small group of people decided they knew better than the results of the games. What is the point of playing games? Do you tell players it is okay to quit if someone goes down? Do you not play a senior on Senior Day for fear of injury? Where is the motivation to schedule challenging non-conference games? We are not only an undefeated P5 conference champion, but we also played two P5 non-conference games away from home and won both of them. I don’t understand how we are supposed to think this is an acceptable way to evaluate a team.

"I’m hurting for our players who have displayed a tremendous amount of resilience and response this season. What happened today goes against everything that is true and right in college football. A team that overcame tremendous adversity and found a way to win doing whatever it took on the field was cheated today. It’s a sad day for college football.

"I’m proud of the work we have put in and the players I have the privilege to coach. We have one more opportunity to define this 2023 team in the Orange Bowl, and I believe in how our team will respond."

He's right.  They won every game and did everything they needed to.  Some nerds behind computers decided they know football better than actual results.

Seriously, that’s the committee. It looks like the monthly tenants’ meeting an assisted living facility.

Didn't Ohio State win it all with a 3rd string quarterback, a few years back?

I mean they won the Big Ten title game 59-0 with him. FSU limped to a 16-6 win against a decent Louisville team

Sorry, FSU w/o Travis isn’t a top 4 team

I don’t think there’s any argument for FSU without Jordan Travis being a top 4 team in the country. What are the “plenty of arguments that say otherwise”? Loss of key players is one of the factors that the committee considers. Alabama beat three of the schools in the graphic you posted.

Maybe.  But they earned a chance to prove it and they deserve in to prove/disprove it

Sure. Tho I don’t really want to watch FSU’s anemic offense. So as a fan of good offense and QB play I am happy.

I suppose expanding the playoffs solved some things. But like they are expanding it too much to me

Who'd they play in the title game? Did they play a top 15 team?

And struggled against USF and Auburn! You shouldn't penalize a P5 team for going undefeated.

Wisconsin was #13 and favored by 4.

Thanks for looking that up. The point still stands, they let OSU into the playoffs, with a 3rd stringer at the helm.

This year is a really good example of why expanding the CFP is good. Tho expanding it to 12 is bad. Most years there are 6 teams that are clearly the best teams. This year has 8, Georiga, Bama, OSU, Michigan, Washington, Oregon, Texas, and FSU. Adding 8 teams is gonna be rough.
