cthomas Posted December 21 Posted December 21 The CFB needs to be the best teams regardless of who they are. Being inclusive doesn't make it better. Tulane and JMU getting badly beaten doesn't do anything for those programs. In the current climate, they simply don't belong. Fill the field with the best teams available. Quote

JMU is only in because the ACC is dumb and doesn’t know how to keep a bad team out of their conference championship game. And G5 needs to have a spot to develop the sport and keep non P4 interesting. Expand to 16 teams. Let the #1 seed play the G5 and then switch to higher seeds get the game at home for 2 rounds. Quote

Hovadipo Posted December 21 Author Posted December 21 I like the “move the bowls to the non-con portion of the schedule” proposal I heard this week. Bowls as we know them are dead, let’s think outside the box. Quote

Unfortunate they screwed the pooch in 2023 when they snubbed undefeated Florida State. They wound up with an anti-trust investigation and now they have to include the G5. Quote

Sounds like they wanted to keep Notre Dame happy. Edited December 21 by OliviaPope40 Quote

I agree with the caveat that I think the field’s already too big. Personally, I think it should be 4 and that should be the end of it. If someone wants 6 with 2 byes, fine. If they insist on 8, ok, I guess. But 12 is too many. If the field is big enough that a 3 loss team is under serious consideration under any circumstances at all then the field’s already too big. This idea of going to 16 with all these auto bids like the B1G is proposing is ridiculous. And if some non-P4 can get in based on resume/eye test, cool, love it. But an auto bid is stupid. There’s no FDU-Purdue scenario in football. JMU and Tulane could have played those games 100 times and they would have lost them all. BtownStrength, rayl456 and cthomas 3 Quote

The NCAA needs to just suck it up and form a lower tournament for the G5 schools. If a G5 school qualified for the CFP let them elect which tournament to participate in. That way they can’t say they are frozen out. Quote

I like the idea of the G5, but unfortunately the G5 is now much weaker than they used to be because the portal/NIL results in all their top players being taken by the P4. I guess the G5 has to be included because if not there are antitrust lawsuit risks. Not sure how to get around that. Not that anyone cares but I like 12 teams. I could live with eight though, which will almost always capture the teams that can win it all. OSU was #8 ranked last year. Adding more than 12 I just don’t get because that’s just adding teams who aren’t good enough to win it all. And it starts to devalue the regular season too. Regardless, it seems like we are heading to 16… Quote

If it would have been 4 teams last year the national champion Buckeyes would not have even made the playoff. Lebowski Posted Monday at 06:55 PM Posted Monday at 06:55 PM Vehemently disagree with all of your takes regarding shoving G5 schools to the side and tournament size. JMU out performed both Tennessee and SMU last year. My X feed is flooded with JMU right now. It matters to these schools. And most G5 fans aren't pretending G5 schools have a legitimate chance to win these games. For them, it's about the season. It's about having a more fun SEASON!!!! And earning their right to play with the big boys is the ultimate American Dream. Also, both JMU and Tulane just got $4 million each for their conferences! We don't have enough schools in the playoff either. We need to adopt the FCS format and be done with it. Why in the world would anyone that loves football not want this playoff!!! Seeing IUFB host the winner of warm climate schools Arizona or USC!? Sign me up and here's my money. And based on what I saw in the first round, JMU might actually beat BYU in this playoff. Does a hot Duke team beat Vandy? How about that matchup with UM and UU? Holy smokes, this is per entertainment the FBS is missing out. BannerVille and 8bucks 2 Quote
