Keep in mind what the new rules allow...I would expect both TB and TW to give it a try.

"Players will be allowed to enter the draft multiple times and participate in the combine and one NBA team tryout per year. They also will be allowed up to 10 days to withdraw from the draft after the combine"

Just to put a date to it. They can return anytime before May 25, as long as an agent has been secured.

I would expect this list to get pretty long.

I would expect this list to get pretty long.

It's going to be a very stressful two months for fans, coaches, and recruits.

And I am very interested to see how this affects the combine, specifically the number of players who go through and return to school and how it changes draft boards.

Also, dont forget, even through our wins in the reg season, Bryant usually wasn't putting up big numbers. We have never really counted on him for more than 8-10 points, 5 or so rebs. He just blew up in the UK game. He still has a lot to work on and I believe he craves to get better. I'd be stunned to see him leave. Bank on him back next year.

I haven't watched Stone a great deal, but his numbers the same as TB's with one having a better FG% and the other having 2 more ppg (and a 1 game suspension!) Draft Xpress has Stone a mid round #1, just wondering what the difference is between him and TB, other than 10#'s and 1 inch, that makes one a 1st round pick and the other not.

You have to be invited to the NBA combine right? I wonder if that brings down the number of guys testing the waters. Or they just jack up the number of combine participants to fit the number of guys wanting to try.

They invite about 60 every year. They won't raise it. If someone doesn't want to participate then they add someone. But those not participating are normally locks in the lottery.

With TB projected as a lottery pick next year, it may be in his best interest to wait another year, get better and get paid!

I think the CBA is back open for negotiations either next year or the year after. And of course, neither side is happy with what they are getting, so there is talk of another lock out. So yeah, that should be taken into consideration as well, since they are going to want to get paid, and if there is another lock out, that isn't going to happen.

I agree. I think if your family is hard-up, you have some injury issues you've kept under wraps, your next year's team is going to suck, or you've maxed out your pick are all acceptable reasons to leave early for a non-lottery pick.

For someone like TB, he could easily move into the top-10 with the improvement he would make in a year. You have to think the risk:benefit analysis says stay for the significantly improved payday.

They might have to raise it. Let's say 60 participate but 10-20 return to school. Now a third of the combine is no longer draft eligible so you need a plan to make up those numbers so all potential draftees can be better compared to one another.

Like, the guy getting screwed is the one who just didn't make the final combine cut but would have improved his stock if he had been able to participate. Now he can't participate because his spot is taken by a player who isn't even draft eligible.

They aren't worries about that. Not with the rise in international talent and seniors coming out each year.

My understanding is that the combine will stay as it always has. If say, Troy decides to test the waters and several NBA teams express interest, he'll likely be invited to the combine, but if the general NBA thought is that he needs to return to school, then he'll get feedback, but won't be able to be at the combine.

The combine isn't for players to see where they stack up, it's for NBA guys to see where players stack up, among those they are interested in. They aren't likely going to invite someone that they think is the 95th best stateside option.

@KySportsRadio: Calipari announces that every player on his roster, including the walk-ons, will announce for the NBA Draft

John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari
Met with our team today. Told them that during the season it’s about the team and sacrificing for each other – which they did this year.

John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari
When the season’s over, it’s about each individual player and what’s right for them and their families.

John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari
With that being said, every player who is eligible for the draft, including our walk-ons, will submit their names for the NBA Draft ...

John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari
... in hopes of being invited to the combine in May.

John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari
The new rule states they can submit their name a total of three times. If they choose to withdraw, they have until 10 days after the combine

John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari
It's a true win-win for the student-athlete.

IMO, Momma Bryant is the decision maker for TB, and I have a feeling she's not ready to see her baby go bump and grind with the big boys.  I think we've got him for 1 more year.  (typed with a 95% confidence level)

If Momma Bryant was the decision maker, Thomas wouldn't have been at IU.

I'm expecting OG to test the waters too unfortunately.
