I'm not as good a source as Hoosier Guy, but I've felt good about Romeo since the Archie hire. That to me made it a 2 horse race between IU and UL. Since Louisville got slammed for hookers and paying players in such a short time span, I've been pretty sure it would be us. IU and UL are the only places where the fan love, proximity to home, national spotlight and team quality converge. One school took itself out of the equation. Thankfully we're the program left standing.

To me the UNC and KU talk is because Romeo is just making sure he remembers he has options. I'm no high-profile athlete, but I'm a year and a half removed from the college decision, and my favorite school separated itself pretty quickly as the place where all the factors were met. KU and UNC aren't convenient for his family to see him and the fans there don't care about him anywhere near as much as at IU.

I've always thought he could be star anywhere else but to be a hero, a legend, he'd have to go to IU or UL. We're the only option left.

It was IU vs Louisville ever since Archie came along. He made Romeo a HUGE priority. Any coach with sense would’ve done the same thing. Once Louisville was eliminated, IU was the front runner. Hasn’t changed since

That last sentence says it all

so basically, Thanksgiving is the time to cut it to three, but the last sentence leaves an out for it POSSIBLY being earlier if he is set on where he wants to go.

EDIT: ...which I personally believe he will announce earlier than Thanksgiving, one way or the other.

Agreed. I feel that out for possibly deciding before then is in place because there will be significant influence from Garland's decision. With DG reportedly deciding very soon or waiting until fall signing, it gives Romeo a little extra time to re-evaluate his decision based off the direction Garland takes, if needed.

Very apt analysis.

Idk IMO U of L fans are the absolute worse.

Having lived in Louisville for the past 3 years, I would have to agree. The basketball team is good, but the fans are crazy. Football is even worse though. At the start of every football season, the local radio shows talk about how Louisville has a decent shot at making the CFP. The entire fan base is delusional...

He very well could be. But that's no reason not to take his time.

I've always said no reason to even sign in the fall

signing in the fall, for a top recruit like Romeo is mostly (if not completely) for the fans.  Their spots will be held.  By signing in the spring, they can see the make-up of the team and possible projections for the following season.  get a look of players growth in the off-season, season-ending injuries, how a team handles adversity and, (possibly most importantly for Indiana's situation), exactly how a new coach's system works at a new school.

I completely understand that it could be beneficial for the player to sign early by "getting it out of the way" and "being able to focus on their high school season," but even if they choose to wait until spring, I would be surprised the size of the impact waiting has on a players psyche...

With all this being said, I hope he commits soon, for my own sanity and productivity at work!

I am guessing Mr. Snow is not in the loop on this one. Can't be in on them all.

I think he is in his one. He is a national guy that live in the Indy area and his focus is the Midwest for scout. He has referenced talking with Tim Langford quite a bit when discussing his recruitment. I would say he is not in the loop on the Garland one. In my opinion

Fair enough. The only items he has presented have the sound bites Langford has give for everyone. Nothing new or abnormal. Anything Zach Osterman has provided for free has been provided by him. He is really good, but I don't feel he is plugged in this one. He isn't doing anything wrong, his info in this instance isn't pay worthy. IMO

My wildly speculative opinion:

Garland commits to Indiana in the fall, then 80% chance Romeo commits in the fall and 20% chance in the spring

Garland doesn't commit to Indiana, 10% chance Romeo commits in the fall, 50% chance commits in the spring,  and 40% chance UNC and KU become much more serious options for spring signing.

If Garland doesn't commit, Green or someone else other than Newkirk need to demonstrate a level of PG performance I am not expecting to see this year... KU and UNC will both be much more attractive in terms of winning potential and PG. Garland is so important to this class.

I wasn't on the boards at the time, but was Cody's recruitment as big nationally as Langford? Or just equally/more hyped within the state?

More fanfare due to IU being where we were and UNC with two Zeller's already having been there with titles. Butler had just come off their run as well. I think Zeller's got more coverage tbh which is weird.

Agree on this info not being pay worthy. He did have a sit down with Tim months back when there was no information coming out. I think snow has built a relationship with these kids and parents through his starting of the forum tip-off classic. This will be the 3 year that New Albany has agreed to play in it. When I talked to him at last years event he said he started doing this classic because there was just too much talent in the state that there was no reason why there couldn’t be an event to showcase these recruits in Indiana and the Midwest.

Tim Langford clearly doesn't feel like divulging information or giving anyone a scoop.  Good for him.  I'm sure this entire ordeal has been taxing on the family.  Rick Pitino's downfall probably wasn't fun for them.  Having an ogre like Bill Self walk into their home and give a hard sell probably wasn't great for them.  Knowing that Romeo is going campus to campus with some kids they don't know probably isn't fun.  Calls from pushy reporters trying to make a name for themselves isn't fun, especially when words get misconstrued to make a splashy headline.

That answer, to me, says, "no comment."  There's nothing they felt like sharing.  I don't think we have anything but inferences and Hoosier Guy's gut to go on here.

Sometimes I look at this stuff and think it feels like Romeo is looking for every excuse not to go to Indiana.  I mean, we're RIGHT HERE, man!  He's not popping in for unofficials or anything.  But, that's the same for everyone, except maybe U of L when they were in it.

Then my better judgment takes over.  Like a little Hoosier Guy angel sitting on my shoulder, whispering reassurances to me between Taco Bell farts.

- Archie is wildly popular.  People just like him.  He's got the pedigree, the attitude, and the smarts.  He comes prepared, and wows them all, ESPECIALLY when families are in play.  He's proven he can coach, and in his short time he's proven he can recruit.  He's got Indiana Top 100 players falling over each other to commit.  He's got ESPN doing a timely puff piece on him today.

- Hoosier Hysteria was awesome.  Romeo saw plenty of flash during his recruiting, but no place can match what happened at Assembly Hall.  It impressed the whole family.

- Proximity.  This is just luck.  Pitino went and got himself fired.  Calipari did something wrong in Italy.  We're next, and we're not chopped liver.  It has always been a factor that the Langfords want to be close.

- Darius Garland.  That picture they took at the old center court logo.  Sure, there's the blurry pic of Romeo playing in the UNC 23 jersey.  But he didn't really stand there for that, sanction it, look at the camera, etc.  When he and Darius were here, they put those uniforms on and posed for the pic side-by-side.  Romeo has been rubbing elbows with a ton of 5* guys.  Neither he nor Darius have done something like this elsewhere.  Then you figure in that their families are somewhat close by now, having attended these OVs together, and seem to wavelength in this whole experience.  Better yet, with each player being interested in Indiana, it's like a legitimacy is created, giving the program the chutzpah to recruit the best just by virtue of having another similarly talented player this interested.

I try to read into the fact that they told Archie that he doesn't need to visit (hat tip to Yogi's Picnic Basket for all the information, by the way).  This one really gets me.  It could be interpreted good or bad, but I think it's good.  I think it indicates that they're comfortable with Archie, and that they're tired of this process.  No more coaches.  No more visits, please.  It's also why I can see that this thing may be wrapping up.  My prediction?  They've had enough, they've heard enough.  They buy into what Archie is selling.  We get a commitment, and Romeo spends his senior year traveling to Indiana gyms being cheered by Indiana fans on both sides of the bleachers.

This is a great post. Well thought out analysis. Im obviously confident too

Staying cautiously optimistic here on both RL and DG.  ALL teenagers are impulsive.  The parents and coaches and inner circles are there to keep them from making a quick commit.  They’ve said all along they would do the visits and then narrow it to x number and then decide by x date.  There’s no reason for them to change that and when they consider doing so the parents, coaches, inner circle job is to calm things down and revisit why and how to make the decision , so no impulse decisions.  I think that’s why everything got so hot on DG right after HH, and then has cooled some.  If DG has said its IU, it’s the parents etc job to say, I’m, let’s sleep on it for the 2 weeks like we said we were going to, and make 100% sure. This decision is these kids biggest decision of their life so far, and being impulsive isn’t a good idea.  The only thing that changes in my opinion is RL signs in the fall, after DG because they are tired of the dog and pony show.  Other than that, timelines stick, and both wear the cream and crimson IMO.

Two Zeller's at UNC? I thought Tyler was the only one who went to UNC.
