(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

This  is not directed at Romeo but rather recruiting in general.

I think recruiting would be absolutely the worst aspect of the job.

"Regular" kids visit a campus a few times and then decide where they are going to SPEND 100k-250k over the next 4 years. Athletes, however, have coaches falling over themselves for months or years in order to "show the love" that will  help drive the kid to go to their school.. 17 year olds are "put-off" because a coach  "only" attends 8/10 of their events. I would hate to stake my career on the whims of 17 year olds that were judging my texts, phone calls, visits, and wether or not my "on the knees begging" was suffiecient.

A big reason why coach Stevens is in Boston and not at the college level. On this same thought, I've heard announcers drooling all over these "kids." I get it. It's part of the system but it levels the field between salesmen and great coaches.

It's refreshing to hear Romeo is a good kid raised by good parents. I truly hope he ends up at IU and builds a legacy from high school to college and then the NBA. It would be amazing to see the new staff and Romeo to pave that way...

I know he's good, I'm just salty about the whole situation. For example, here is an arena full of IU fans chanting for him to go to IU. And he really doesn't seem to care too much. I just really believe that Indiana is his last resort.

What exactly do you want him to do mid game? He's been a quiet low key kid the entire time he's been in the public eye but now it's being construed as a negative towards IU. He hasn't changed. You are salty about a quiet 17 year old that hasn't decided where he's going to college.

Well if you had read the article USPS posted, it clearly said that Romeo heard the crowd chanting for IU and he smiled about that comment. Doesn’t seem like a negative towards IU at all

Forum Tipoff write-up from the New Albany newspaper.

NEW ALBANY — Top-ranked New Albany felt like it played poorly in Friday's overtime loss at Floyd Central.

To a man, the Bulldogs credited the Highlanders for handing them their first loss, but they also felt like it had more to do with the way they played rather than what Floyd Central did.

On Friday night, the Bulldogs were dejected. They woke up hungry Saturday — and poor Fort Wayne North paid the price in New Albany's 97-59 win at the Forum Tipoff Classic at Southport.

New Albany (4-1) shot 66 percent from the floor and dominated the fourth-ranked Legends (4-2) from start to finish.

"We were looking forward to getting back on the court," sophomore Julien Hunter said. "We feel like we let our fans down [Friday]. We were out for blood. We just wanted to get back in the win column."

The big matchup was between New Albany's Romeo Langford — the clear 2018 Mr. Basketball frontrunner — and 2019's top candidate for the honor, North's Keion Brooks.

Like New Albany did the Legends, Langford took it to Brooks. Langford outscored the junior 42-19 but it was more than just the statistics. Langford's 42 are a Tipoff record and he also had seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block of the 6-foot-9 Brooks. On the other end, North felt it was better of putting its star on Langford.

"It's another opportunity to show that I'm the best player in the country and the state," Langford said. "I felt like I won that matchup tonight."

Brooks finished with 19 points but seven of them came in the fourth quarter. He was just 6-for-19 from the floor with Langford defending him most of the night. On offense, Langford was 14-of-21 from the floor, 9-of-10 from the foul line and made five of his eight 3-point attempts.

"I thought he came to play tonight on both ends," New Albany coach Jim Shannon said of Langford.

Langford missed the first three days of school — and practice — last week with strep throat, but he said he felt close to 100 percent on Saturday.

"Last night, I felt like I was going to throw up the whole game," he said. "I got better [today]."

Langford was far from a one-man crew Saturday. Sean East scored 20 and has scored at least 19 in all five of the Bulldogs' games. He was 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-7 behind the arc. He also led the Bulldogs with eight assists and had five boards.

Hunter was perfect from the field and earned a double-double with 10 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.

"I feel like we all came in and put our little part into the game," Hunter said. "Everybody's focused on Sean and [Romeo] and they need some help. I feel like the supporting cast came in and helped them out and gave them a lift and brought energy to the game."

Derrick Stevenson added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Sophomore Trey Hourigan and junior Anthony Irvin had five points apiece in the victory.

"The younger guys really contributed," Shannon said. "I know Romeo and Sean did a bulk of it, but the other guys, man, they really contributed."

New Albany led 9-2 after a Stevenson fastbreak layup and 19-9 at the first break. The Bulldogs pushed the advantage to 42-23 at the half after Langford step-back 3 as the buzzer sounded. A Stevenson layup as the third quarter expired made it 66-40.

Langford had his biggest period in the fourth when he had 13 points. The closest North got over the final eight minutes as 22 points.

This weekend, the Bulldogs host Seymour on Friday and go to Carmel on Saturday. The Greyhounds are ranked 12th in the latest IBCA poll.

You’re salty about an assumption that you’ve created in your own mind. Relax.
