Man, if that practice being scheduled at random times is true it just makes me want Crean gone that much more. He just doesn't get it. These are 18-22 year old kids. They need proper planning and schedule times from their leader, not spur of the moment crap. Really pisses me off

Can't be smoking or drinking if you never really know when you need to be ready for practice. I wonder if this is a newer system of Crean's in response to the off the court issues over the past couple years.

Yeah I have seen Crean mention this before as well. It is hard to tell if his idea of tapering is still more aggressive than others who also taper off. I have no idea but I am skeptical.

I am skeptical too.  I seem to remember a couple of years ago how the guys talked about how hard he practiced them up until the very end.

Is this in jest? Surely we have scheduled practices.

Nope, just the way Crean rolls. When Crean's ready, or sees something on film, it's practice time.

one also can't plan for anything, like studying, napping, eating, pooping, hanging out with friends/girlfriend etcetera. He is ruining their college experience

The practice schedule is a direct correlation to past incidents. Didn't CTC enforce a rule where all players have to live on campus a year or two ago?

Doing whatever it takes to save his job, sucks for players though

http://indiana.247sports.com/Article/Indiana-focuses-on-basics-in-practice-after-Penn-State-loss-43598596

Excerpts:

  • Indiana took Wednesday off last week, so IU head coach Tom Crean knew the team would practice the Sunday after its game at Penn State, regardless of result.
  • Crean said that even heading into a game that will be complex with the number of strengths the Hawkeyes have, he worked to make Sunday’s long practice one with many simple teaching moments.  “It was a little longer and a lot more physical, a lot more scrimmaging,” Crean said of the practice. “
  • The practice lasted quite a while, Crean said. Though he has spoken throughout the season about tapering off practices to keep his players fresher for the final stretch of the season, the loss against Penn State fired him and the Hoosiers up enough to put in a full day’s work Sunday.  “It was a long one,” Crean said. “Hopefully they had DVRs so they could watch the Super Bowl later. I’m sure they got to see some of it, but it was more important that we get that out of our system and get ourselves ready for Iowa."
