What would be on your IU Basketball Bucket List?

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a new book project and it would be great to get feedback from many of you. The book is supposed to be something along the line of an Indiana University Basketball Bucket List.

It can encompass a lot of different areas but I'm trying to think of things or places or anything in that vein that says Indiana basketball to you. Maybe it's your favorite place to watch IU Basketball. If that's in Bloomington, great. But if it's wherever you call home, that's great, too. I want some variety there.

What are your favorite IU basketball traditions, and do you have any traditions of your own when it comes to IU basketball?

Do you know of any people that have rooms or mancaves that are dedicated to IU basketball?

It doesn't have to be a top 10 Bucket List of something like that but ... it could be.

I'm very likely going to come at this from a variety of angles. But if I could several of you to weigh in on this that would be great, too. I need to have this done in the next few months so the sooner you can weigh in, the better.

Thanks in advance....Terry Hutchens

When we finished our basement i had iu basketball and college basketball in general in my mind. while the theater room isn't dedicated to iu basketball( it's the tv show lost themed), the room before you enter the theater is full of iu posters, pictures, and flags ( I even got a small iu Christmas tree and decorations for the room during the holidays). During construction of the theater room I had the construction workers put in 2 extra cable outlets on each side my projection screen.
Basically during the college basketball season I turn my theater room into a basketball room. I watch 3 games at a time unless iu is playing then I only have the iu game on the 136 inch movie screen. I'm 37 and still to this day on game day I rock the candy stripe pants and classic warmup shirt. Regardless of our record or who we play I still get nervous before watching almost every game.
I got my love for iu basketball from my dad and I will do my best to pass that love of iu basketball to my 4 year old son( who has candy stripes and my 2 year old daughter who has candy stripe overalls).
If I could have one bucket list thing regarding iu basketball happen, I'm sure other people who have lost a father that shared a bond over iu basketball would have the same wish ( I lost my dad 6 years ago) While I have been to a lot of games at assembly hall i never attended one with my dad. I would want to attend one game with him at assembly hall or watch one last iu game with him in my basement. I'm not sure if this is what you were wanting

For me I think of all the hours my dad and I have spent driving Hwy 37 to and from games. We have solved all of the world's problems and a few of our basketball team's many times over on those trips. It was special making the trip with him again this season since he had to sit last year's out while undergoing chemo.

My bucket list would be for IU to win it all again and to attend every game along the tourney run.

Maybe what I'll end up doing is having a section where I let different people weigh in on their own IU Bucket List thought. I'd of course get your permission first. But a few of those above are exactly what I'm looking for. Keep 'em coming.

I'd like to see a decision made to eliminate piped in music and stick with the IU Pep Band.   That's the best there is in college basketball; and I don't think we need a DJ.

I'd like to see a virtual game between the 1976 team and the 1993 team with everybody healthy.

I'd like to visit a Bob Knight practice before a Purdue game, circa 1993.  I'd like to visit the winning locker room.

I'd like to see the mop lady before every IU game on TV again.

I'd like to interview Don Fisher.

I'd like to bring back Max Skirvin.

I'd have loved to be in Bob Knight's house when he did his show from there.

I'd like to go back in time and have the administration do a real search for a coach in April of 2001.  Indiana has not recovered from not doing so.

I'd like to be a judge to see who makes the Red Steppers.

I'd like to have seen Alford practice shooting and Oladipo working out on his own.

And I'd like to have seen how much food DeAndre Thomas could put down in a single sitting.

This is perfect. More of these kind of thoughts please.

Without a doubt would have wanted to be at the game to see Watford hit the 3 to beat Kentucky.

I'd also have liked to have seen when Hulls came to assembly hall during his recruitment by Crean.

Most of all I think I would have liked to have been on the bench during the Michigan Game when Zeller decided he wanted to win the Big Ten.

And of course the Cliche, I want to see a Tournament win.  I want to see Banner #6 raised.

Be in the locker room at halftime of the 1976, 1981 & 1987 NCAA championship games.

Be on the bench when Smart hit the winning bucket in the 1987 title game.

Be in the room for the discussion and voting on hiring Kelvin Sampson and the same for CTC.

Be able to relive my undergraduate years at IU.

One time in Assembly Hall against Minnesota (1989 season I believe), RMK locked the team out of the locker room at halftime for the way they were playing. Joe Hilllman huddled the team at mid court and took charge. I'd love to know what was said in that huddle.

A true bucket list is forward looking and to that end, I would love to be seated behind the bench on the night we win our next NCAA championship.  [Note to team; I ain't gettin' any younger!]

Witness the hiring of Brad Stevens as our new coach.

Live within walking distance of the most beautiful campus (and Nick's) I have ever seen.
