IU vs Wisconsin Post Game Thread

Recommended Posts

That Troy Williams fast break with under two minutes left in regulation killed us. I knew right when he got the ball it would turn out bad.

He doesn't have control of the ball at all times.. he's not a very good ball handler... It's just terrible seeing no progress from him in terms of playing under control and learning how to dribble. My 5th grade girls can dribble and play under better control than him.

It's all coaching Crean..

I have to disagree a little bit. I agree that Crean made some mistakes (a couple weird lineups, should have played OG on Hayes more, should have doubled the post, etc.), but we are not the same IU that we saw earlier in the year or last year. The team from November, or last years team, would have kept that game around 6-10 most of the second half, and then with about 4 minutes left would have made some boneheaded defensive plays and allowed Koenig, Showwalter, etc. to hit some big 3's and Wisconsin would have won going away by about 12-15.

While we weren't great, the team didn't fold like earlier in the year or last year. While we still made mistakes down the stretch, we also showed some toughness and almost stole the game where half out team didn't even get off the bus.

Agree, guard depth is going to be our undoing. If RoJo is off, Yogi is basically on an island in the backcourt.

Reasons why I'm throwing shade at Crean.

-Subs
-That out of bounds play ( add that to the many he's drawn up)
-Our ISO offense.

However, our play was very very poor, nowhere near the level of play we have been seeing the past couple of weeks. Troy isn't NBA ready. Our bench is not deep at all, and very streaky. Not having another guard that can score hurts us.

We go as Troy goes.

This game told me that we may still be the same Indiana team we saw earlier in the year... And for the past few years.

Let's play a couple more worthy teams and go from there.

Well Wisconsin did have some chance to nail some big threes, can't remember if it was in OT or Regulation but they got three offensive boards, missed two wide open threes.

I mean we've looked like an final 8 team during some of our games.. and then a performance like last night just reminds me of the typical Basketball team that i'm sick of seeing. Just a poor performance and yet we almost won, so i guess that's one good way to look at it. Yogi should've used the backboard on that final shot he had. UGH! good look though

He didn't even have to use the backboard. All he had to do was jump into him to create contact instead of trying to go under him. 2 shots at the stripe for the win.

Does anybody else think that maybe once in the hundred times Hayes had Collin,OG or whoever else pinned down on the baseline that we could have sent a guard down to help?
He turned the same way almost every time leaving the defender hanging on.I know he could pass out of that but at least they would've had to hit a jump shot.
I wanted to puke every time he got the ball, knowing it was 2,a trip to the foul line or both.

I wondered the same. Whoever was guarding Zak Show could've doubled down on Happ or Hayes. Zak is a 36% 3pt shooter

I understand the frustration of the loss, I'm also frustrated. However, Indiana played one of their worst games in the b1g and still almost pulled out the W so I'm still hopeful. At Michigan is going to be the test where we see if this team has grown or not. Having JBJ out, despite his defense, still hurts this team a lot. I would much rather have JBJ in the game than Niego. Troy's defense more so than his offense was really bad this game. Wish OG could've played more but he looked sick out there. Z couldn't hit anything again and he had a huge chance to change the outcome of the game but missed the wide open 3. All in all, it sucks that Indiana couldn't pull this one out but there's still a lot of games left to be played and really gauge what the makeup of this team really is.

So why is everyone upset? Indiana is the same team they were earlier this year, and last year, and the year before that, and the year before that; nothing has changed. Only our perception, (based on a winning streak against inferior opponents) and thus our expectations have changed, not the actual product on the floor. It's still a mosh pit of hopelessly flawed players, incapable of playing smart, disciplined ball when the competition improves. They're slow on their feet, and slower in their minds. If Wisconsin went to the foul stripe a disproportionate number of times, it's because they were FOULED a disproportionate number of times by players reaching with their hands, not moving their feet, and otherwise being out of position. Was there really anything surprising there? Ditto for the turnovers, which can be attributed almost entirely to poor fundamentals, (we have none). We didn't lose because we played at the Kohl Center. We lost because we're mentally weak, poorly constructed, ill prepared, and still one dimensional on offense. Wisconsin beat us with one of their poorest teams in years, simply by showing up and allowing us and our flaws to do all the rest.

Haven't really seen you much lately. What happened to you? Or was it just a product of winning?

Edit: You know other boards like trolls too?

Yeah, the clear lack of defensive adjustments was a bit maddening. Throw in Troy Williams playing basketball like a maniac, and just a little home cookin' and you have a recipe for one of the more frustrating games in a long while.

I completely agree the we lost this game ourselves, refs didn't help though. I don't know about the under the weather players but if OG was healthy I think I would've had him stuck to Hayes until he couldn't go anymore. Then get him a quick rest and right back out there.

I agree. We had our chances and shot ourselves in the foot.

I felt like going into Kohl against a mediocre Wisky team would be a nice quiz to see where we are at. Unfortunately we failed and we have a lot tougher tests upcoming.

I agree. We have always played well against Michigan under Crean. IMO that is a must win now.

I would like to add I have yet to see a team look good in my lifetime losing. As was said over the last month since we last lost this would be the way we would lose. This would also be the overreaction we would get. I agree with Dakich on this. We are a different team. We played a **** game on the road to Wisconsin. Shocked? There was a reason this was a pick'em game for Vegas. Most of you post every day. Even the most anti-Crean posters have been positive about the recent play. Then moments after a loss we see posters that haven't posted in over a month just bitching left and right about how there is no progress. That is the definition of trolling and just irritates the hell out of me. You know who you are. Where have you been the last month? You expected us to go undefeated in conference? The fouls? They were bad but not unexpected. The turnovers were bad. Troy should have been on the bench most of the game. Our interior D sucked. Rebounding in key moments was awful. Yet we lost by 3 in overtime at Wisconsin. Let them run their 17's and let's see how we play.

Thank you! No one is saying Indiana played a good game and doesn't deserve criticism. But it's quite interesting the response in a post game thread after a great win and a loss. Most likely the reason I usually stay off the boards after a loss. Anyways, onto the Minnesota game and hopefully Indiana gets back to the ways of good play. Those 17s are going to hurt them but it is well deserved.
