Is Thomas Bryant a one and done?

Recommended Posts

Vonleh is the starting power forward on a middle of the pack team in the West. He's not even on the bench much less the end.

He's starting? Good for him. I know many didn't, but I liked Vonleh and his game regardless of how the end of his IU season ended.

Yeah he is starting, not getting starter minutes though. Think his minutes have been increasing on a monthly basis.

One of the few players that isn't a Pacer that I make a point of keeping tabs on in the NBA

Yeah Portland is never on TV and sometimes I forget they exist until I play them in 2K. He's kind of like Gordon for me. When I think of Hoosiers in the NBA I forget Gordon *every* time.

Bad media deal and this year not being a good team keeps them off TV. It's a huge complaint of people who move away from Portland, they're just impossible to watch. Gordon has been injured so much he's been hard to follow, also not being on a star team doesn't help.

I hate Meyer Lemon and would prefer Vonleh got his minutes. Vonleh has made a ton of progress since the beginning of the year and looks better every game, he still has so much potential. Next year when we have some better pieces he'll get a lot more attention.

His story should still be a warning to TB though, until this year he was in a bad position without much hope to escape without being traded to a team who had a big need for a big. He's doing great now that he has a shot, but he would have been better off staying another year at least and avoiding the whole thing.

Hopefully he is. That means he played well throughout the end of the year and into the tournament. There's a lot of basketball yet.

Is OG one and done too?

Hopefully he played stellar for the Big Ten season and tournament, wins us a national championship, but decided he wants a degree at the finest University in the Big Ten.

I'm usually a proponent of guys leaving if they are a first rounder. The college game and NBA game are much different, and guys will improve much more working with NBA coaches on a daily basis and working on what their "NBA game" will be (the shots they'll get, NBA defense, etc).

But in Bryant's case I think he should stay. He's flat out not ready physically/athletically, and probably not emotionally either.

With the NCAA changing their views on dates and such, i'm sure we'll have a couple players testing the waters at the combine to see where they stand.

However, this draft class is EXTREMELY weak. Little bit to early to determine if the boys are NBA ready, we've had an extremely weak schedule so far so it's hard to judge them against top talent.

Chad Ford is a freaking joke when it comes down to it. Dude should have just about no credibility when it comes to pre-draft stuff, and chances are he'll end up changing his mocks years after the draft ends up happening anyways. And no, Bryant isn't anywhere ready for the NBA. Like he is well behind Vonleh at this point.

I'm probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest NBA fans on this site, you don't need to tell me anything about the Vonleh draft stuff, and really the only team that came out with was the Celtics. No other team was really reporting anything of the sort, don't know where you're getting multiple teams from.

Vonleh shot about 50% from three as a freshman, even if it was a limited sample size it showed he had the ability to shoot that shot. Coming out of college he showed he could shoot the ball. Not to mention Bryant hasn't even shown to be able to touch Vonleh when it comes to rebounding.

I am not the biggest Chad Ford guy either, but it was the first one I thought the name of....I know he is on another 2 that I saw, I will search for links if needed but google it.

The Lakers had Vonleh work out for them too.

If Vonleh hit 1 out of 2 3 pointers at Indiana that's 50%, and it could be that low of a sample. This kid had limited Offensive game in college, and Bryant is way beyond him in that capacity. Did you see that move he did today(yesterday) vs Minn. with the spin on the baseline?

Also this is just my opinion on things, that I try to back up with facts, and I can admit when I am wrong or if my opinion changes.

My opinion right now, Bryant goes pro. He has a better chance at coming back with the new league rules allowing him to come back though which is great for IU.

I think it will also help with Troy Williams who I think coming into the year, he was dead set on this being his last year at IU, but he hasn't had a great year. He plays too fast at times, and I don't think his left hand is there. He can def play in the NBA with his athletic ability, size, hops, etc....but I think preseason he was a sure top 20 pick, now I don't think so.

Again as an IU fan, I would love for both of them to come back.

Out of ten of the most recent mock drafts I just looked up, Bryant is only mentioned in Chad Ford's top 20 prospects (is that technically even a mock draft).

Its a similar situation to Williams the lats couple of years, he isnt even listed as a first round and people are assuming he is a lottery pick already. Bryant is a talented player but hasnt shown enough consistency to be a lottery pick right now. I have no doubt he can become that though. All he has to do is look at Vonleh's situation

Glad you looked it up because my husband is always doing that in regard to the Magic and I have him check on TB.  He said the same thing you did, that he wasn't even mentioned.
