James Blackmon Jr to undergo Surgery *Out for Season?

Recommended Posts

Not sure where someone heard it was the opposite knee from the preseason, but somebody very close to the team told me that it was the same knee and that they are fearing a torn meniscus in that knee that might require surgery. This person told me they would not be surprised if he missed the remainder of the season

So if he were to miss the rest of the season that pretty much eliminates any possibility of him jumping to the NBA after this year (I don't think he is nearly ready but for a hopeful 1 and done to stay 3 years would be tough)..... To transfer and then sit out another year seems completely out of the question. SO he heals and comes back the next year, would be interested to see how that would play out with a new coach.

Prayers that he recovers well, whenever that may be.

Certainly prayers that he returns this season. My brother suffered a torn meniscus in high school and played through it after a few weeks of rest. I think it depends on the significance of the tear but hopefully when they get it re-evaluated it is not as bad as some close to the team think it might be

He is bad enough at his job. It does no good to speculate about potential problems that is created within our minds.

Thats kind of what everyone does here though? Like the SC cheering on players has turned into him cursing and coaching. Most look at that as fact now. Or that he can't coach at all. I mean if him sucking this bad equates to 11-3 then great.

Osterman was the source I seen saying right knee.

@AndrewVcourt
James Blackmon Jr. is still being evaluated, and will make the trip to Nebraska tomorrow. #iubb

Who is doing this evaluating? Team Doctors?

How long does the evaluation process usually take? This sounds as if it is something he is trying to play through some pain and no worries about making it worse? Maybe waiting to see how the knee feels after a practice or some activity? Seems to me if surgery was needed he would do it ASAP and begin the recovery....

I mean at what point does all the speculation this secrecy engenders defeat any benefit where disclosure would just be more productive?

Us Duke fans are going through the same thing with Jeffersons foot. "Out indefinitely"

Agreed, but Crean rarely discloses specifics about injuries. Maybe it's a university thing... and I do recall some previous discussion about HIPAA regulations factoring into any (lack of) specificity in disclosing details.

Probably actual doctors. I'd say the delay is due to needing some imaging done and the holidays.

Any chance their is NO knee injury?

My first thought was a cover up? Did he do something over the break that warrants a 1 or 2 game suspension but that kind of bad press right now absolutely couldn't come out?

Or Crean mentioned recently that toughness was going to be a factor in playing time in Big Play... Sending a message?

Just a thought...

I love a good conspiracy theory.

Inside The Hall also reporting he will travel to Nebraska but they are still "evaluating" the knee---which sounds like code for further testing needed which doesn't sound good. They are reporting the right knee is the one now injured.

I hate to say it--but I wish it were a conspiracy theory as set out above. Would rather have him back and healthy ASAP!

I admit I don't understand the logistics and I'm not a medical professional, but if one of your McDonald's all Americans has a knee injury shouldn't all of the evaluations have been done ASAP? Is it wise to wait several days to perform additional tests and evaluations? At this point, shouldn't the assessments be over and the prognosis and treatment plan be instituted?

That's kind of making me think it's not really a knee injury. What if it's another failed drug test, and they're keeping it quiet because they're afraid Crean could be canned on the spot? If he's out tomorrow and again Tuesday, but then comes back next weekend...

Makes sense but they are being very vague and he has a history of knee issues.. Saying they are still evaluating etc... If he comes back quick and nothing major wrong it will be very fishy

I was near the floor at the Rutgers game and he was walking with a limp.

I have no idea what to think.  If he had swelling in the knee they could have been waiting for the swelling to subside to evaluate further.  After that evaluation they could have had conflicting thoughts so wanted to give it more time before performing more tests.  I have zero info on that but I know it's taken weeks to actually find the problem of some of my ailments.  Although I wasn't a big time D1 athlete either.
