Why? Even in context it doesn't really change the meaning. They aren't feeling pressure because no one expects anything from them.

That they have each other to encourage them to win is very nice but it doesn't make the first part untrue.

Brody Miller is the IDS Sports Editor and very involved. I'm sure nothing will come of it nor am I convinced anything really should. He just highlighted the most interesting part of the quote, meaning didn't really change. 

 

What an awful thing for your quarterback, a team leader, a senior to say. IMO with a question like that the right answer is that you feel pressure and are frustrated. If you're going to deny it, definitely don't drag your school's name through the mud. Uhhh... really Suds?

Not a great comment but after a while it is hard to blame him when you look at the stands. Perfect football day, plenty of Iowa fans to help increase the crowd and a 3:30 start which should not interfere with the night time student partiers or the alums that are worried about getting back to Carmel before 10. On top of that we are points away from a top ten team and a ton of people leave at the half. I do not see that anywhere else. Even the announcer said he felt sorry for the players.

again, until you see WINS on the field fans aren't going to continue promoting a mediocre to bad program. I don't see why people feel like blaming the fans are going to change anything. If the stands are packed, do we win that game? Let's be rational

Certainly Suds choice of words could have been a lot better.  But let's be honest.  Even with our winning start to the season how many of us were waiting for the wheels to fall off?  I've witnessed it more years than many of you and it's not fun whatsoever to start the season with optimism only to have a bucket of ice water thrown in your face once B1G starts.  Sadly, it is Indiana football and it has been for 50+ years with just a few exceptions.

I would have gone with better choice of words I agree with what Hoosh said that they should be feeling some pressure. Threw the fans under the bus with that remark.

Look I really like Nate a lot. Great kid. But that comment is indicative of "same old Indiana" that was told to us that these kids purged from their minds at the beginning of the year.

I would have liked our captain to say, "I know people think the expectations are low here at Indiana, but we don't have them. I'd rather eat a truck load of horse manure than lose a football game. We are going to go back and practice our butts off this week, because we are going to beat Michigan next weekend, no matter what anyone else may think."

I am not blaming the fans but he said expectations were low at IU and people leaving a very close game,at the time, confirms his feeling that expectations are low. Do you think everyone left because they had high expectations of the program/game/result??

Whoever the color guy was on the ESPN broadcast today said "80 teams go to bowl games.  Indiana is better than 65 of those teams, whether they qualify or not."

 

I don't think the number is that high, but Indiana's so damned close.  We obviously got crushed being in the division we're in; but this is a decent football team that just needs one thing to go right....one bounce.  One stop.  One call.  It seems there are one or two plays that beat them every week.  At least we're right there more times than not, now.  A few years ago, Iowa beat us something like 652-6.  Or that's how it seemed.   Cultural change and expectations of a program take a long time to change.   This program is miles better than it was 5 years ago.  One damned break.....and I think it snowballs.
