Yeah, missed the "besides Indiana" part when he mentions schools prioritizing him. Glad to see. Jallow though, seems like a great get early on that would be a beast down the line for us.

From the accounts I've seen, Jallow has not been all that impressive when IU's watched and thus we've backed off somewhat.

I've read that here too. Might be true but hope we don't regret backin off later and by then it's too late. Only seen video but seems to be a special talent. If we are landing a whole class better than him we are all going to be ecstatic!

4-star point guard Rob Phinisee talks recent Big Ten visits

Indiana point guard Robert Phinisee is one of the top floor generals in the class of 2018. Recently the pure point guard made a trio of unofficial visits to schools in the Big Ten.

In a day and age where most kids are combo guards who try to score from the point guard spot, Robert Phinisee is different. He is a pure point guard who thrives on making others better. Phinisee has been a priority recruit for numerous Big Ten schools, and is working to find out as much as he can about all of the programs after him.
Playing with Indiana Elite, Phinisee battled some knee tendinitis during the spring, but after some time off he is feeling better and says his game is really coming around.

"I think the spring went well, and then things were good at the team camps I played in, in June," said Phinisee. "Getting to rest helped my knee a lot, so I am ready for July and I expect us to have a good July as a team."
Schools such as Indiana, Purdue, Virginia, Butler, and Ohio State are all very much in the mix with Phinisee, and he recently visited three of those programs.
The most recent visit for Phinisee was to Ohio State. Chris Holtmann and his staff had been recruiting Phinisee to Butler, and now they are once again showing him interest as they work to get him to Columbus to be a part of the Ohio State program.
"I liked the program a lot," said Phinisee. "It was my first time touring the campus. They say they definitely need a point guard in the 2018 class because they don’t have a pure point guard in the program. They really want to get the program turned around quick, and they say they need a point guard like me to do it."
When asked how the change from Butler to Ohio State has impacted the message in their recruitment, Phinisee said, "It is pretty much the same message from Butler. They want to bring in the right guys who fit what they do both on and off the court."
Before heading out to Ohio State, Phinisee and his high school team made the trip to Bloomington for the Indiana team camp.
About the trip to Indiana, Phinisee said, "It was a good time. The team did okay and it was just good to be playing at Assembly Hall, so it was a lot of fun."
Indiana will lose starting point guard Josh Newkirk after this season, and Archie Miller and his staff are telling Phinisee they need someone who can step in right away and be a contributor.
"They say they need an impact guy who can come in right away and play," said Phinisee. "They are looking for a point guard who can help them bring in a national title back to Indiana. Also they want to focus on bringing in all of the top in-state guys."
A week before Indiana had their team camp, Purdue had theirs. Phinisee has been to Purdue numerous times as it is only 15 minutes from his house, and once again he enjoyed his time at Purdue.
"I have a good relationship with the entire coaching staff," said Phinisee of Purdue. "They keep telling me I am a top priority, they just want to keep me at home. I know they are going to need a top point guard once P.J. Thompson leaves, and they say I can be that guy."
For now Phinisee is in no rush to make a decision. He plans to narrow his list after July, and then make a decision in the fall after he takes some official visits.

Ironically enough, today's article from Osterman in The Star.

IU makes Robert Phinisee a point guard priority in 2018

Anyone have any updates on Phinisee? He had slipped to the second page of the recruiting board, despite a looming decision (last I heard he was looking at deciding in August). I saw on twitter that he had a big game in AAU today in front of several major coaches. However, I have gotten the feeling his national perception has slipped this summer.

It has for sure. He's still performing like a 100-150 type recruit. But as I've griped all summer he has limitations. I'm interested to see how it all turns out.

I've always like Hunter more anyway. Henry has raged onto the scene.

Indiana hoops will be interesting this year.

I would say it's the latter.

What can a Legendary Center teach a PG???

A lot??

If not then he should have hired an assistant that could.  I'm not sure if Ewing will make a good coach (I would guess not) but not sure why being a center should hamper his ability to recruit a PG.

Archie Miller was a PG.  Does that mean he has nothing to teach a center?
