(2018) PG Robert Phinisee to Cincinnati

I've been on board the Phinisee bus for a long time and am ecstatic that he's coming to IU and I fully expect him to be our starting PG next year.  One concern that I have, and I hope others that have watched him play multiple times will chime in, is that I've not seen any alpha male aggressiveness on the court with respect to his teammates.  He plays with very little expression or emotion and rarely questions any officiating call that doesn't go his way.  We clearly need a floor leader in more than just basketball skills which he definitely has, but I'm not sure he has the in-your-face moxie when teammates mess up.  Again, that's my perception and I'm interested in what some of you may think in this regard.

I have only watched him once and you're right he didn't do those kinds of things, but those are characteristics that grow and you have to be comfortable doing them. I have very rarely seen that at the high school level it's just hard for 17 yr old kids to want to tell his friends what they did wrong. But like Yogi did eventually I fully expect Robert to be comfortable doing this in time.

I've always had a fondness for Anderson's game. Winning seems like the most important thing to him. He puts up good numbers but they win and win a lot. Honestly, I've been Phinisee's harshest critic and most of that is comparing film to Darius Garland. But this year he is putting up incredible numbers. Excited to see what he can do in college. I'm still worried about some aspects so we will see, but I'm encouraged.

Hunter seems like he could be a superstar when/if he puts it al together. Forrester will better fit Archie system from the aspect of quickness and versatility. Good foundation class. Not sure how "instant" it'll be but I'm excited to find out.

I’m not expecting a Duke/Kentucky level of performance from our freshmen because it just isn’t that kind of talent, but I do think it’s a great foundation and the type of team we’ll be proud to call Hoosiers. A bunch of guys with McRoberts’ heart and the talent to match playing disciplined basketball. Forrester is the only one that I’m not expecting much from. I just think he’ll be in the bottom of our rotation for most of his career and hopefully give some role player minutes toward the end.

My only concern is the unbalanced roster but that usually works itself out through transfers or early entries to the NBA. If we get Langford, he’s probably gone after a year or two if we’re lucky. I could see Hunter becoming an early-entry guy as well. Throw in the inevitable transfer or two and the classes start to even out.

Hes also dishing out 5.9 assists per game so hes directly involved in between 42.3 to 48.2. 

Not sure whatvthe team is averaging.  Also grabbing 6.1 boards a game

Just did the math Rob is directly involved in somewhere between 62%-71% of his teams scoring. Not counting hockey assists or FTs that he may help get drawn.

This is my horse.  I saw him play in the state finals as a sophomore; and I could see it even when his body was not yet developed.  Tis kid is fantastic and WAY better than his ranking.  Likely a 4 year player; and as much as I want Romeo; this is the kid I wanted most.  He is now showing what he really is....we're gonna love him.

This is my horse.  I saw him play in the state finals as a sophomore; and I could see it even when his body was not yet developed.  Tis kid is fantastic and WAY better than his ranking.  Likely a 4 year player; and as much as I want Romeo; this is the kid I wanted most.  He is now showing what he really is....we're gonna love him.

Think he'll do more as a freshman than Berry did, but I'd say that's a good comparison.  Phinsee is just smart.  He knows where team mates need the ball, he is a natural leader who can run an offense, and he lets scoring come to him.  When he plays with the best kids his age, he always looks like he belongs.  (at least when I've seen him)   If he fails, I'll look foolish because I've been bullish on him for a long time....and I have zero worries.
