Where will our transfers commit to?

Recommended Posts

Man that stinks.  He gets booted from the school, then has to sit a year to think about it.

I thought maybe it was like signed recruits such as we had with Devin Ebanks and Terrell Holloway.  We released them from their signed letters so they could play instantly at West Virginia and Cincinnati.

The Devin Ebanks and Terrell Holloway situation is when a player commits but the coach they committed to leaves, the players are released from their LOI and allowed to sign somewhere else. That is still allowed but  thats a whole different story than what happened to Hanner, who was here for multiple years.
I for one don't feel sorry for Hanner. He should've learned after his first incident. Thats a whole other topic though

From what I  understand,  coaching change doesn't matter.  Accepting the scholarship is what matters.  So why does Hanner have to wait if he was released the way the other two were?  There is no "the coach left" clause.  If I was Hanner I'd fight it.

I think executing the scholarship matters more than accepting it. Hanner would have zero chance of winning. The NCAA grants no waivers anymore for transfers that haven't graduated.

Most kids get released from their LOI after the coach leaves. Look what happened after Shaka Smart left VCU and after Donovan left Florida. Kids who have signed their LOI but havent even started yet are usually allowed out of their LOI to puruse another option. Its a completely different story for players that are already years into their scholarship. Coaching change doesn't matter for those players. There is no hardship waiver anymore so its pretty much automatic that you have to sit out a year unless you have already graduated. Hanner could fight it for all he wants but he has little to none chance of winning cause they've done away with the hardship waiver as I already said.

Couple of posts suggested Hanner fight the 1-year sit out requirement (which is now mandatory).  If he did try to fight, he'd have to put out a lot more effort than he typically gave us on the court to even have a small chance of winning.

He may not have had a lot of high major interest, after the pedestrian freshman year, missing last year and his issues.

I'm sure he wasn't very interested in sitting out 2 years in a row either.

A good year at Odessa and he'll get some more high major interest. He'll prob avg a double double at Odessa and be a top JUCO player. At his size, he's perfect to be a dominant 4 in Junior College.

I wish DD the best but can't help wondering if a JUCO so far away from Indianapolis is a good idea. He had a support group close at hand and couldn't stay out of trouble. What happens so far from home with no support group close at hand. Time will tell.

That could be just what he needs. It may be a wake up call that he's on his own out there now so it's grow up time or he's screwed.

A community college is probably the best place for April to go and I do wish him well.  In many ways it's unfortunate that we signed him to a scholarship last summer; a move that at the time smacked of desperation and his only meaningful contribution was cannon fodder in practice.

I still wish he stayed. He was easily our best post player offensively.

I have no idea how you make this leap. The coach and staff did not see it at practice. We did not see anything resembling that in games. In fact his season was as follows:

Appeared in four games this season, playing a total of 17 minutes ... scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked a pair of shots ...

Jeremiah April was our best center and best post offensive player. For one he was our only center. He also had the only part moves. Prilla shot a 3 maybe 2? Did he make one? And Hanner just caught dump offs. I saw Hanner do as many post moves as April in a season. April's looked more fluid. Was dumb to never play him.
