Thoughts on Archie Miller

Recommended Posts

I would die a happy man if I never saw the weave at the top or the drive baseline/ jump/ pray/ pass.

I think they pass first then pray it's not a turnover.  Then maybe they look to see if the other team is running a break, maybe.

I think Ive seen every team in college basketball do all of the above.
Just look at IU. Mike Davis, Sampson, and Crean…every one used the weave at the top.

Crean was the first to use it at Indiana. It wasn't a viable offense in the Davis years and Sampson ran more of a motion. The reason this sticks out to me is Crean ran it without the personnel to do it and sold it as this was his offense. I thought it was the worst then with VJ3 and company and I still feel this way. The dribble drive is dribble while everyone else stands around. It has been terrible for Crean at Indiana and terrible for our fans who know cutting and screening and ball movement has won us championships. I call it the Harlem Globetrotter shuffle cause they actually invented it for comedy. It's still funny today.

I've called it a lot of things.  I think the nicest was probably calling it street ball or yelling "f*****g move!" while watching the game.

I remember seeing the end of a Globetrotters game on TV and seeing them run the weave at the top of the key and thought that's what Crean was watching when he should've been watching Izzo coach.

Davis and Sampson may have ran more of a motion offense, but they definitely used the weave at the top of the key

Miller's teams also play a winning style of basketball (similar to Wichita State). I think that Miller just doesn't have the talent that Marshall has at this point.

Pretty funny when you consider that we have underachieved with talent for the last few years.

My guess is that we don't make a move, and someone else steals Miller and Marshall. All the while waiting for Stevens to come home, and he never does.

I hope I am very wrong.

Oklahoma is showing they have better talent, but Dayton is giving them everything they can handle.  We definitely have a more talented team than Wichita State or Dayton, which makes the question simply:  who would get more out of them, Crean or Miller/Marshall?  I'm guessing either of the latter two.

I'm liking the way Dayton plays.  They move the ball by passing instead of dribbling, it's not weave weave weave and if that fails one on one street ball, and they work on the defensive end.

It's not a guarantee, but I just like guys that are from coaching families. A guy that was a point guard at a high level, and played for his dad in high school. He's just been around the game his entire life. It doesn't guarantee a coach's son will be a great coach, but it's definitely a big check in the pro box.
