Alford Bailey Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Rumored here in southern Indiana is Matt Jones had some calls today from angry UK fans because Donovan is interested in the IU job Donovans hire at IU would immediately ramp that rivalry up to a fever pitch. Bryan Medema Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 In this hypothetical realm, who do you think would better choice to coach the team as it stands/would look like next year? Assuming that Yogi, Troy and JBJ are back (the key pieces if you will) and we get one (1) of the post players we're looking at (Bryant or Maker)... I think Donovan could wreck (more) havoc with that roster. Then again, in theory anyone should (though if that was true, we wouldn't be having this discussion). Quote
JSHoosier Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 One major issue with that is we have a "coach". Fixed. And if Donovan would come that wouldn't be much of an issue. MemphisHoosier, Happydaze, jonz44 and 1 other 4 Quote
HoosierSadaseci Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Sorry guys, not buying it. Starting to get the feeling we're keeping Crean now...what a colossal mistake that is, but that's what's picking up steam now. WayneFleekHoosier and Townie 2 Quote
Bryan Medema Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 My main discriminator on Stevens v Donovan (long term) is that Stevens' ties to Indiana could prove critical in recruiting the state (which is loaded with talent the next few years especially). Stevens would need players that totally buy in to his coaching, methods and roles. But longer term Stevens would get players that fit and we would be rolling. Bryan Medema 1 Quote

Townie Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 So if this scenario came to fruition AND Ca$h-Money-Cal left UK for the NBA, just how terrible would the SEC be? I don't think Cal is leaving... ever... i think he is just using the NBA opportunities to get an even fatter paycheck from UK. As for the SEC, i heard on ESPN the other day that they might be the #1 conference next season with all their highly touted incoming recruits (especially LSU). That being said... I'll believe it when I see it. I just can't view the SEC as a serious basketball conference lol Quote
HoosierTrav Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Billy D turned the UK job down twice and the Orlando Magic once. I'd say this has a 0% chance of happening. Not trying to be a pessimist. Just dont think this is a realistic possibility. We have much greater chances at Stevens IMHO. ElectricBoogaloo 1 Quote

He's coming off a bad year at UF and he did sign with the Magic once then reneged. If nothing else it shows a willingness to listen. If we make the pot sweet enough... I still doubt we get Donovan though Crimson and Cream 1 Quote

I'm sure Donavan will do fine with in state recruiting but let's not forget how loaded Florida is. Having a pipe line to Florida along with all the in state recruits would do us fine. Quote

If nothing else it shows a willingness to listen. If we make the pot sweet enough... I still doubt we get Donovan though I get that but he already makes $5 million annually. I think we can match that price but that doesn't leave much room to sweeten the pot. On the other hand: Brad Stevens is making $3.6 M/Per in a city that is far from home, to coach a franchise where his success isn't directly tied to his decision making. He could take a $1.4 Mil pay raise (More if you consider the cost of living between Bean town and B-Town), live at home, coach his favorite childhood program, and have 99% control over his success. My opinion anyways. ****DISCLAIMER**** I would LOVE to have Billy D. He would be a Demi God at IU. I just cant see this. Keep the eyes on the prize and pay whatever you need to pay for it (Stevens). Don't take no for an answer. Stuhoo Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Think Coach Chuck would be willing to draw up one of those Photoshop "HoosierGang2015" posters for either Stevens or Donovan? After all, Rawle Alkins and DeRon Davis got one! Alford Bailey, Napleshoosier, WayneFleekHoosier and 3 others 6 Quote

ElectricBoogaloo Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Every program with a coaching change thinks they are going to lure Donovan away. It's just not going to happen. The question is: are you still comfortable getting rid of Crean without a high level replacement waiting in the wings? I am. Alford Bailey, HoosierTrav, 8bucks and 1 other 4 Quote
