Potential fallout from coaching change

Recommended Posts

Yeah, but who's going to fire a college coach in July? Got to give it to Crean, he has some smart lawyers.

If a coach was wanting to get back into coaching right away, he would have more options in April than in July. I say we do what is best for the program. It is worth the cost if we get the person we want.

For a lifelong fan and 25+ year IU booster and member of the Alumni Association, this is the second year I can't wait for the season to end. It reminds me of the Mike Davis years.

That's basically how I took it. If not, then Glass really screwed himself over on that one. Still, having the buyout drop in July gives Glass more leverage if they discuss a settlement beforehand.

Yeah I'm not too worried about whether it "can" happen. It's all about "will" it happen.

Tommy Amaker is 49. He was a 3rd team All American guard at Duke, a burger boy and Parade All American out of high school, and NABC defensive player of the year at Duke, I believe he is in the Duke HOF, and was a Coach K assistant for 9 years, He has something that Crean lacks, college basketball playing experience, and at a very high level. Also was on the Duke coaching staff for two NC's and three other FF's.

Never took UM to the NCAA, but did win the NIT and had two other NIT appearances in 6 seasons. I think the lack of NCAA berths and not finishing above 5th in six seasons was the cause for his demise at UM. He took over at UM after the NCAA hammered the Wolverines basketball program for a multitude of violations dating back to the Fab Five (Chris Webber and gang).

please do not ever boast a coach for his NIT accomplishments.

Sorry, I edited the original. My original post was not a question. A family member who works within the athletic department told me a week ago "Yogi is gone." I didn't ask any questions

I see now

DJ my quote function isn't working but I believe this is beyond what Glass thinks. I mentioned to some in PM's/mod forum that the word after the NW game was that the problems with Crean are coming from higher up. Without getting too specific, Glass is going to need to do what he needs to do because it's his job on the line at this point.

I mentioned the money/buyout issue a few times on here and it is not an issue. The money is there now and it was there when the extension was negotiated. Glass isn't as stupid as some are making him out to be on that extension. Having said that, I'm not sure it will come to that.

What do you mean with your last sentence? If the extension might not come into play does that mean he is still likely to retain Crean?

Anyone with dreams of going to the NBA in a season or two (ei JBJ and Troy) won't risk sitting out a year so they won't transfer.
I still say if you bring in a big enough coach, players will stay. And with the money that we are paying Crean, we can get just about anybody

I agree JBJ will probably come back. Thats definitely better than 50/50. Troy however, I could definitely see going. The new coach also may not ask back certain players/players may not see eye to eye on new philosophies... I could see us bringing back (if we make the right hire)

JBJ

RoJo

Hoetzel

Holt

Davis

Zeisloft

Parea

Fuchs

April

However, I also assume we may be saying good bye to OG and Morgan? Hoping the new coach could bring in some bigs or we will just go into next year with the same issues as this year minus Yogi and Troy

I think it all depends on who they bring in. Incoming recruits could want to play for someone if they know that 1) they will still get a lot of playing time and 2) that the team is going to be competitive. If we signed the right coach at the right time, we could still compete for some unsigned recruits for this upcoming season. Highly unlikely but it could happen if we get the right guy.

Dakich is talking a lot of IU today. He isn't exactly taking a Crean stance, but his overall point is "don't talk about it, be about it" when it comes to Indiana basketball. Also saying that the team is losing the fanbase due to lack of defense and effort.

Doubt he will say explicitly that Crean should go but he read a peegs post that he agreed with and that poster clearly wanted a change.

He also said Indiana is a top 5/6 program and 99% of coaches would want to come here
