Potential coaching change suggestions

Recommended Posts

Honestly, I am in agreement with this. Firing crean with no action plan puts this program in limbo. Unless we know who we're gonna get and that person is a great coach, no point in getting rid of crean with the potential team he could have next year.

And when those players leave we're right back where we are now and further removed from where we should be with more excuses for why we can't get a good coach. I'm not comfortable going down they road.

One name I just realized that I'm surprised hasn't been thrown out yet is Bryce Drew. He has Valpo playing really well the past few years and he's in-state.

Disclaimer: I don't want him, just surprised the name hasn't come up.

For myself. I think Bryce Drews brother is dirry at Baylor. And, I would be aftaid of him also.

Wasn't there a lot of dirty stuff going on in the recruitment of Hanner? I can't remember exactly but I thought it was him.

Inexplicably, someone at Baylor lost his job over HANNER!!! Pathetic as HMP would rather take a charge than block a shot or grab a board. That 2012 class sucks in hindsight. Yogi and nobody else.

I've known the Drew family for 40+ years, Bryce is an outstanding young man and coach but he's not ready for IU yet. And yes, Scott is dirty, I have no idea what happened with him down there. I'll just leave it at Bryce has always been much stronger in his convictions than Scott.

Even if we wait for Stevens, nothing is guaranteed we get him. Then we have just put our program in limbo for another two years. If he truly has wanted the job and has an out clause for us like has been suggested, we try right now. Then we go to the next man and so on. One man is never going to be bigger than our program; not Stevens or Crean or Knight. I must say that who we have leading our athleticdept has me worried about our basketball program just as much as our coach. As much as Glass has been outspoken for Crean, his in depth comments regarding our basketball personnel and even offenses strike me as the unprofessional director I really think he is. Let the coaches coach. I think his behavior is also as bizzare as our head coach. Maybe that's why they are so close, but it greatly concerns me attracting top talented basketball coaches. With this being said, I think they both should be out. Our president should help find our next coach and this may help Stevens, Donovan, or whoever feel confident they are backed all the way to the top.

I have been thinking about what it would take to bring IU back to the top 10 and top 20 on a yearly basis. I think the best thing to do is look at programs that are always near the top. They always start with an AD that makes good choices. By that I mean an AD that knows college athletics and can evaluate coaching candidates intelligently. In the past their seems to have been too much emphasis on finding and Indiana guy for both football and basketball. If Alabama did this they never would have hired Satan, if Kentucky did this they never would have hired Calipari. The best qualifications a coach can have relate directly to past success. Have they had a program consistently in the top 20, do they recruit well, do the now how to be a good floor coach, can they handle the media, are they rock solid in their personal life. I can think of more but you get the idea. If Glass pulls the trigger, and he should, he needs to do it intelligently.

. Correction: Alabama hired Saban and Kentucky hired Satan.

I agree with the first part of your post.  I just don't think we're going to make a change unless they're pretty sure we can land a home run type of guy, someone like Stevens, Donovan, Hoiberg, or Sean Miller.

I'd be wiling to bet feelers have already been put out to some of those guys to gauge their interest, and if there's only a tepid response, Crean will return.

I went over to a Seton Hall board to see what they have to say (it's another "rumored" Crean destination). Most there seem to think that would be the best thing to happen to their program in recent history, while also calling it a total pipedream and there's no way they could afford him.

Alabama's forum consists of "Football" and "Other". I'm not kidding.

I think the Seton Hall fans are right. He'd do well there. Alabama, not as much. Plus, he could reunite with Isaiah Whitehead. It could be his next Oladipo/Wade product.

I didn't know what thread to put this in, but a source close to my family is saying Crean might leave on his own accord for Alabama. Might not become true, but interesting to say the least

That has been being said for a few days, but a lot of the major sources have started to back off of it now. I would love to see it and I will admit it did get my hopes up, but I don't know at this point.

Would he be going there to coach basketball?
