I wonder if he's regretting his choice yet? Averaging 11 minutes per game, only played 4 minutes today. This after playing 31 minutes per game last season at Temple. Right now he's averaging 3.6 points per game.

He would have been our starting center, and we were one of his leaders about a week before he visited OSU and immediately chose them. It makes me wonder just how that OSU visit went.

Based on what I've seen from him, and if we can make the assumption that we got Holt instead, I'm very happy how things worked out.

Feel bad for the guy though. A final year like this sort of kills any shot at making basketball his profession.

Not to judge, but the only play I remember seeing from him today was a missed shot at the rim followed by him not even attempting to get back on defense, which led to him being immediately pulled from the game. I personally don't want anyone like that on the team I root for, especially not a senior. I think it turned out for the best we ended up with Holt, he looked good yet again today, just needs to work on those FT's and trying to finish with more authority at the rim. My friend is a big OSU fan, and before today's game I asked him why Lee wasn't playing more, seeing as how they were in a similar situation as us concerning lack of big man depth/production. He said Lee just hadn't done much to stand out when given playing time, and his minutes had been dropping as the season went on.

Matta blew some smoke up his you know what. We all take shots at CTC, but Thad Matta is the real fraud.

Daniel Giddens is the one were gonna miss out on. I realize Crean isnt the best big man coach out there but Matta is one of the worst. Trevor Thompson went there too. Amir Williams a MCDAA 4 year Senior is about as good as Jeff Howard.

True.

To be honest, I wonder how the interviews with all the 10 Mc Donald's All Americans went with Cal also!

You may want to take a look at his Big record and championships before saying that. He's also played for a national championship and has built Ohio State into a perennial winner and conference contender year in and out under more Ncaa sanctions than Crean when he took over. I'm not we're what you're referring to but calling him a fraud would be far from the tuth.

You may want to look at all of his past ability to attract top big talent as well as get them to the next level before stating something that's just not true. Name me someone other than Cal that has put his name on as many big men getting drafted as high as Matta to the next level? I certainly don't think Matta is the best coach, but he's damn good and has a proven track record with big men. That point is really not one of discussion if you look at the facts.

Yeah, if Matta can win a championship or even just make a few more Final Fours, he's got the potential to become a hall of fame coach. 15 years as a head coach, a championship game, another final four and nearly 400 wins. Pretty solid resume, and if he can keep up the success for another 10 years, an excellent career.

Yes, but Thad's were one and done, not developed, either. 1 was legitimate (in my opinion) in Oden, but Mullins and Koufos rode his coat tails into 1 and done. Did anyone think Sullenger wasn't going to be a stud coming into college?

Between Kentucky, OSU and Indiana, the only developed lottery pick was Oladipo, in the last 4-5 seasons.

O$U collects 4 stars like UK collects 5 stars----and they win----but imo it's the talent and not so much the coach.

I've seen a lot more bigs go to O$U and not develop or perform--- then the opposite.

Like UK---a few of their bigs that were successful were basically 5 stars who were stars anyway.

Which Big has Matta developed?

By the way---I am not saying Crean is any better at developing bigs----same argument could be made against IU.

Cody and Noah were already awesome when we got them.

I will say our strength and conditioning made them stronger and faster, etc.---but we have had a lot of big fails too.

IU's argument is we need one badly now ----and have more playing time to offer!

Agreed.  I use Sullinger as an example.  The longer he was at OSU, the more it hurt him.  I saw him continually regress.

Eh, the only reason his draft stock fell was injury issues, and the fact that he wasn't and still isn't a good fit for the 4 spot in the NBA. He was a stud in college that didn't translate to the NBA that great. He didn't really regress at all

Honestly who cares which players he developed individually? Matta recruits well and challenges for a BIG title and BIG tourney title every year. And usually makes some noise in the Dance. Team basketball? All at a football school where he has to play second fiddle to Meyer and co. I'd say he is a pretty darn good coach right there with Izzo and Ryan as best in the B1G.
