Little Archie and Rhode Island fall to Brown 59-58

I looked at a Rhode Island forum for the first time in my life.

This quote reminds me of his start at IU:

I don’t know what it is, my friend. I can’t pinpoint it, but for me it goes beyond being the first year of a rebuild with an inexperienced roster. Something is off.  Archie was absolutely the best hire. I’d do it 100 out of 100 times. But if there was a performance evaluation after 9 months since his hire, and 9 games played, there wouldn’t be many positives.

URI is now 2-7. They have lost to 2 of the other 3 Div 1 teams in Rhode Island and not sure they'd beat Bryant either at this point. I've read the same board and many comments are eerily similar to here both the positive and negative. Maybe Archie just had a very nice setup in Dayton? And the loss to Brown wasn't just a loss. They blew a 5 pt lead with 3+ minutes to go and mustered just 1 point during that time (if I'm reading correctly).

I've checked in on a RI message board too, and it's all remarkably familiar. It's the exact same posts I read for years. Optimists saying Archie was absolutely the right his, but needs time to up the talent on the roster, put his system in place, bring in shooters. Others are seeing warning signs that the offense doesn't move, shots are just thrown up at the rim, and the defense gets beat too often. I've briefly thought of making an account, just to let them know what they're in for in the years ahead, but I think some Indiana fans have already done that.

He hadn't been very good to start the season but was their starting PG.

It hurts because they really don't have much behind him.  Probably forces a combination of Kobe Bufkin -- who's really not a point guard -- and and Dug McDaniel, who is going to get eaten up by big point guards.  I guess they could put Jett Howard into a bigger ball handling role but he's really more of a guy looking to shoot.

Probably could have used a young guy like Frankie Collins from Arizona St.  oh yeah that’s right they ran him off for a grad transfer.

One of the stranger roster trends over the last few years.

juwan can recruit really well but goes for the up transfer PG, year after year .

fine with me I guess because it hasn’t worked out

It’s not a bad strategy. Go with young kids all over the court but the point guard is a 23 year old.

A pg who has never been in your system or played in the big ten? Or even a power 5 conference?

not to mention what it does for your recruiting of other PG’s…

Rutgers takes the lead on the road at #25 OSU. 44-42 with just under 13 to go in the 2nd half.

After being down 11. I’ll give them credit, they aren’t folding. But they also can’t keep OSU guards out of of the middle of the floor, an area where JHS sure would have helped us.

Now up 55-53 under 7 to go.
