Thought it was fairly called, but definitely in favor of SH’s style.

And to your previous comment, the SH staff and players did a good job using that to their advantage using their size and athleticism to punish ISU in the paint.

Best NIT game I’ve seen in a long time. Very fun. I’m jealous of all you guys that went in person.

+1 to all and it wouldn't be fair to not shoutout the winning coach. Shaheen Holloway impressed the absolute hell out of me last night. Don't know if he's a SHU lifer or what, but he's got a classic, east coast, hard nosed team that didn't blink at any point and he'll either keep making Pirates fans happy or he'll end up doing it somewhere else. That game was so high quality and a joy to experience live.

ETA: Legend has it, I'm still driving around looking for a parking spot at Butler.

Holloway is an ex Seton Hall player so I'm thinking it would take a large bag to drag him away. Maybe giving the Hall an NIT title makes a potential move easier. IU still owes him a 'key to the university' for his work as St Peter's coach.

Anyone else watching UConn vs Iowa? Anyone seen multiple Iowa games... can you always hear their coach so clearly on every possession or is it just the mics tonight? Lol... very... distinct
UConn cannot shoot at all, South Carolina beats either team by 20+ easy

What a crazy ending

UConn got totally screwed IMO. Wtf kind of call is that with 10 seconds left.

Choosing to believe their womens team lost so that their mens team could get it done, thus denying PUeww a title and maintaining the natural order of the universe

They didn't get screwed.  That was the correct call.  I hate the idea that the whistle should get swallowed to end a game.  Indiana State was on the bad end of that stupidity two nights ago as they had the same player get fouled twice shooting a 3 pointer within a few seconds of each other.  If it is a foul earlier in the game, it is a foul later.  What the UConn player did violated about every rule of setting a screen.  She leaned into the Iowa kid, had her legs spread too far apart, and extended her arms into contact.  It was clearly an illegal screen.

Then you add in butthurt ESPN's bias against the Big Ten trying to play up the whole "UConn got screwed angle" to boot.  Next to nothing coming from that channel with regard to college sports is neutral and unbiased.  They have certain teams that are their product and that is what they try and sell while downplaying the competition.  I'm glad Iowa won and that was the right call.

ETA:  I wish they would focus more on making that call at the top of the key.  The men's game is a parade of illegal screens on those plays for the past few years.  Half of them could be called when they are set and next to none of them ever are.

Refs could blow that whistle on half the plays as you say. Inserting yourself into the game - decisively - at that moment does not sit right with me, regardless of whether it was a technically correct call. We can agree to disagree. Paige went to the ball too early and Edwards did chicken wing + drag her leg. She was not set. Ultimately it's on UConn for letting themselves get in that position after blowing a lead. They also had a chance to get a rebound with a second remaining and a timeout to advance the ball. In any game, you can point to all sorts of things that would have changed the outcome if they went differently. In a tightly contested national semi final, with 10 seconds left, blowing your whistle on a play you could call half the game to basically ensure one team wins and rip away the others best shot... just a bitterly anticlimactic ending to a great game. Would've preferred to see them play through, as they do most of the game. Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah, I don't agree.  I don't think letting everything go the last few seconds is letting the players decide the game.  The Bueckers (sp?) girl has an Iowa player in her face without the illegal screen and has a much more difficult shot if she can get one off at all.  Failure to call obvious fouls is also the refs deciding a game.

Just caught the replay of the UConn/Iowa women's game ending.

That was 100% a foul, and it was the appropriate call.

I don't even see how one could disagree with refs calling a foul in that situation to be honest.

If you were watching the game live and in the moment, as many people who had an interest were, you'd understand the reaction to that call at that particular time in the game. Great back and forth all second half, then with a chance to come back and win with 10 seconds left after leading most of the game, one team gets called for a violation that could be called half the time. It felt like the floor was ripped out beneath them and they didn't get a chance to play... a cheap ending to a great game on a (technically) correct call that came at a decisive time.

If you don't see how one could take issue with the call, okay.....

Sure. For what it's worth, I would have not been mad at all if they called a foul at the end of the ISU vs SHU game, that second 3 point attempt was definitely a foul. And that was actually on the shot to win the game. My issue in this case is mainly that you could call that on half the plays, but don't, so doing it within 10 seconds of the final buzzer... before the team even has a chance to get into their action, feels like the ref taking the decision into their own hands. It looked worse because the Iowa player also exaggerated her head tilt and is tiny. All in all UConn never should have let it get to the point where refs could influence the outcome. They were winning most of the first half

I bet that exact screen happened 20 other times without a call. That's the biggest problem to me.

Pain.

Hinkle is alright overall, but astonishingly loud. My word.

Can't remember how old I was and who Butler was playing think it was when AJ Graves was there and that was well before they did the new renovations.
