Not sure how you think that refs are magically going to get verticality calls correct when they miss block/charges. The newly defined charge rule is a step forward. Refs getting it wrong witht he newly defined rule is a separate issue because the rule establishes that the player must be set before the offensive player leaves his feet. I'd rather fix the ref issue than get rid of the block/charge rule for another rule that would just be missed. Some of these young guys would freak out the old charge calls. Before if you shot the ball before the contact on the charge the basket would count if it went in. If the defending team was in the bonus they would get free throws. Tom White 1 Quote

Eliminating charges and focusing even more on an more subjective call doesn't make a lot of sense. The refs already do a worse job getting the verticality rules correct than charges as it is. Worse, verticality comes into play far more often than charges, nearly every closely defended shot that isn't taken from the 3 point arc is likely to involve a verticality judgement. I doubt Edey would average half the points that he did if BIG refs could get the verticality call correct. Without a major change in the way he plays, he would be lucky to play 15 minutes in a game without fouling out were that rule called correctly. RaceToTheTop 1 Quote

It's "replacing" a rule with a better and more correctly called one. A call with a lot less variables to be get wrong. BGleas 1 Quote

The issue isn't the block/charge foul. The issue is in the failure of the NCAA to produce quality officiating. The issue is the charge/block. Because it goes beyond the refs inconsistencies and into how terrible of a rule it even even and how terrible a part of the game it even it. Scotty R 1 Quote

The number of times that Edey got hacked with no call + the number of times he turned with elbows extended and into a defender says your point of refs getting verticality calls correct as way off base. Heck, it would be easier to not have players have to dribble the ball as the variables involved in traveling wouldn't have to be spotted. Being easier doesn't make it better. AZ Hoosier 1 Quote

I honestly would be fine if that rule was back in place -- released ball before the charge counts as a bucket if made and offensive player control fouls count toward the bonus. hoosierbgh 1 Quote

If you think Edey slamming into a stationary, vertical defender and then getting a foul call on the defender is a proper application of the rule, then it's no wonder you're whining about charges.. The verticality rule is missed more often than not and occurs far ,more frequently than charges. ebridges24 and thebigweave 2 Quote

Interesting...well, we've done much better generating revenue over the past few years. I created this report a few years back up until 2019 using data from the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics. I just haven't got around to updating it - https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/chamccoy/viz/NCAARevenues/Conference-Year. I teach a class where students make Tableau visualizations, and we use these datasets to create a similar report. lillurk and Home Jersey 2 Quote
Stuhoo Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 Hold your noses and read this. It's a Rupp Rafters post from a guy whose high school varsity bball player son just attended the "John Calipari Overnight Basketball Camp" in Lexington. If this post is true, what a sack of crap message to send to the camp attendees: We just picked him up from camp and he had a blast. There was decent competition there, however, he didn't get to meet the players until right before he left. They were only doing autographs and pictures if you were lucky enough to make your way to them (we were). Cal was a no show, other than the extra ten dollars we spent at the move in day to get a pic and autograph. Outside of that, he wasn't part of any activities. He didn't even make an appearance at the end of camp ceremony. I'm glad my son had fun, but it just seems crazy to me that the actual coach and team weren't involved at all. Especially for a camp called "John Calipari Overnight Camp"...oh well. thebigweave, Tom White, ALASKA HOOSIER and 2 others 3 2 Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 The Kentucky guy that is pretty trusted on inside info (Jack Pilgrim) says that grad credits are holding Reeves back from being a grad transfer but and Reeves has told UK he is going to be back but that Cal's calls to both Reeves and his dad are not being answered nor returned. My guess is Reeves is looking at every possibility of trying to graduate and transfer but going back to UK if he can't. WayneFleekHoosier, thebigweave and lillurk 3 Quote
