I think Painter is better without the stars. Ivey was a talent Painter had never had. I think this roster fits his coaching way more.

They look like a team that could have better chemistry and have enough talent to be a problem in conference. I flat out hate Purdue but respect Painter and think he is a class act. As good as Ivey was, I think he was a net negative for the team.

Yes a lot of standing around watching Ivey last year which is not typical for Purdue. After 45 years I’ve learned to not count them out.

Honestly, the very first thing I saw was Edey getting the ball down low -- taking a couple extra steps, then making a bucket.

They are an interesting team. Loyer and Smith both very confident players. Lacking in size but not a lot else. Great ball movement per usual. They shouldn’t be a threat but this is a Painter team I’m curious to see how it works out. Smith, Morton, Loyer starting when you have Kaufman and Furst is interesting.

Purdue shot 37% from the field against Milwaukee (sub 300 in Kenpom).

And honestly, Edey was really bad. 4-13 with a lot of easy looks.

Against one of the worst teams in D1 (Kenpom 330) Braden Smith was 1-6 fg, 4 assists, 3 turnovers, 7 steals.

He plays with confidence, but he’s also an undersized freshman who can’t get to the rim.

I’ll take my chances with X, JHS, or for that matter, Gabe Cupps over Braden Smith.

Edey can be unstoppable when he catches near the basket and he looks like he’s in better shape this year, but he still moves kinda stiffly.

Oh I don’t think we are in bad shape , hope you didn’t take it that way , but he’s a kid you’d love to have on your roster and he’s likely a four year ( or however many years kids will get for whatever reason) starter ….it’s early but I’m not positive we will get to keep ours for four
