GloryDays Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 I remember a strong contingent on here that didn't believe he was good enough for IUYeah,me too.I was one who mentioned him as a candidate and was shot down rather quickly. mdn82 Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Michigan State has an excellent football program and Duke, Kentucky, and UNC have all had success as well. If you look at places like Florida, Florida State, Miami, Wisconsin, USC, South Carolina, TCU, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Oregon, etc.- all of those schools used football resources to build good basketball programs.Lmfao huh? What in the hell does this have to do with IU? We are a basketball school. Football brings in more money but very few schools spend more on their basketball programs than ours. AH costs more to upkeep. Staff expenses. Cook Hall maintenance. Annual upgrades. What honestly could football provide our program than boosters already do?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app HoosierAloha 1 Quote
mdn82 Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 I don't remember anyone wanting Holtmann over Archie. Many including myself preferred Marshall, Mack or Bennett though. Honestly any of us could go back through the Fire Tom Crean thread as that is where our opinions were. From January on I had Donovan and Brad Stevens tier 1. Next tier I had Mike White, Archie Miller, and Holtmann with Archie above him due to His time at Gardner Webb and being 10 games under .500 in 3 years there. At Butler he never won the conference and lost 11 games twice and 9 games once. I liked how his teams played, but knew if we got him a large portion of the fan base would have been divided with that. Made it to the sweet 16 once. Marshall I just really haven’t been a fan of him or the drama of his wife. Just feel that would have been a bad fit. He wins though. But has no ambition of leaving WSU. It’s cozy. Can’t blame him. I was definitely happy with our choice then and now. Most of the people complaining at this point wanted Marshall and just have been looking at reasons to have a told you so moment. ElectricBoogaloo Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 The polar opposite of Holtmann at OSU is Underwood at Illinois. He has them 0-4 in conference play so far but was highly regarded coming in. I’m sure he’ll have the ship righted there soon enough. Quote

HoosierAloha Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 they weren’t suppose to be that bad the last couple of years with the talent they had but they underachieved. Holtmann is absolutely a great young coach. Bates-Diop is playing like the stud he was suppose to be his first couple years and Tate is just a upperclassman (top 100) kid that is playing like a senior should play. If Miller would of been hired by OSU people would of said IU made a mistake. If IU hired holtmann people would of said IU made a mistake. I personally think both programs are in solid hands for the long haul. If you want to be pissed because another coach at another team is having success sooner then your guy then that’s people right but don’t expect me to flip out because OSU is having a better year then IU. Tier 1 wins: OSU 1 IU 1 Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appGive me Tate as a role player any day of the week. He's undersized but plays his backside off every possession. He's a competitor. He's O$U's AJ Moye. He's a great complement to Bates-DiopSent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
