Absolutely elite X’s and O’s coach. But hiring a guy who was fired from his last job because both his players and his owner thought he was an intolerable a$$hole to then work with kids who are under no contractual obligation past the current season feels a little….dicey.

Malone is better than Woodson but UNC still to struck out. Couldn’t hire an elite college coach and couldn’t land Donovan either. Will probably wish they kept Hubert.

The model for P5 programs from now on will likely be keeping it in house or hiring a mid major up and comer and lowering the axe every 2-3 until you hit.  You aren't pulling away a sure thing unless there's unusual circumstances.

From what I've read, Malone was a much better NBA coach than Woodson BUT was even harder than Woodson to work for.  Posters on the 247 UNC message board are:  1.  cautiously optimistic OR 2. point out how NBA to college  coaches don't work out OR 3.  feel he is going to leave Carolina the first chance he has going back to the NBA.

And apparently his daughter is a volleyball player there? Absolutely reeks of an easy late career paycheck a la Woody if so. He’s a better coach but there’s so much to the NIL era that is beyond day to day coaching.

Kinda funny UNC fans were still talking Donovan right up til Malone was announced. Sound familiar? Seems like the timing for Donovan to come back to college was finally gonna work this year. Maybe he has zero interest in coming back.

With only a game left in the season I want to thank everyone that makes this thread awesome during the college basketball season.  The site going down at the beginning of the year reminded me how much I enjoy interacting with everyone through out the year.   Watching those games without the ability to post on here didn’t feel right.   I know it’s hard for some to enjoy college basketball when IU is down but thanks for showing up in this thread.  Here’s hoping next year IU has it rolling.   Either way look forward to next year already

Not necessarily basketball, but given today's UNC hoop news, and considering who its football coach is -- I found it pretty damn funny!

He was rumored for the Knicks job pretty hard last Spring, so it wouldn't surprise me if he gets out after a year or 2.

Malone is the second highest paid coach in CBB and has never coached a game. $8.3M a year for 6 years.

Have been begging for this structure, though I’m sure it would be sued into oblivion. It would limit some of the Euro professional options. It would punt ridiculous outliers like Baker-Mazara. It would eliminate the JC years not counting nonsense. Would eliminate medical redshirts. Love it. At this point it has to be about age.
