rebelhoosier848891 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 We CAN have discussions about disagreements on the way Crean recruits without calling out specific players by name. And MikeRoberts--I suggest we did have similar players in the 80's and 90's---but I don't even know yet because I have yet to see Priller play his first game! :scratchhead: Geometry Hoosier and GloryDays 2 Quote

I just looked at 1 year.... Chuck Franz 6'2" freshman. Played 4 years 1.7 career points per game over 89 games... Mike LaFave 6'9" freshman. Played ONE season .7 points .9 rebounds Craig Bardo 6'5" freshman. Played ONE season. 4 points in 4 games. I guess the last 2 were Knighted. I think you are agreeing with Rebel but then posting stuff that helps my statement as you listed a class that won a big ten and national championship and had Indiana hall of famers in it, all of which were more highly regarded and recruited players than Priller Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners schoosier 1 Quote

HoosierHoops1 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 We weren't comparing classes. It was said the guys like April and Priller were not recruited by iu in the 80's and 90's and I only checked 1 team and found 3 freshman who appear to be just like em. 2 of whom transfered.... coonhounds Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Maybe not right away, or even through most of his first year... but that type of player that's just oozing natural athleticism will explode after some formal training (especially from Je'ney) and some more conditioning at the college level.is he the same as hanner was is what u r saying and this will b his year to explode? Lets hope Quote
Hutch89 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 is he the same as hanner was is what u r saying and this will b his year to explode? Lets hope Good point though... i'd like to think that these athletic kids can make the next step quicker, but i guess i'm just generalizing. We would really have to see him play some games first. OG was the guy that made some insanely huge leaps during some AAU tournament play right? Hopefully his senior year of HS will show that his success wasn't a fluke. coonhounds and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote
chitown hoosier Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Um as a junior he averaged 21.3 pts, 9.9 rebs and 3.4 blocks per game. Those are some pretty good stats. IMO he's one of those recruits who never got the exposure needed until recently. I expect his ranking to jump by the time he gets to IU. Hutch89 and NorthIUfan88 2 Quote

VO5 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Honestly I am extremely excited for this type of recruit. OG is the definition of a Crean player because he has the athleticism and untapped potential that I believe Crean has a sort of unique ability of finding and polishing. Give him a couple years in the strength program and getting comfortable, we should have a pretty good player on our hands rebelhoosier848891, Lt. John McClaine, scots07 and 1 other 4 Quote

Lt. John McClaine Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Recruiting is such a crap shoot anyways, some guys just don't turn out as good as we think they should or as much as think they should; I.E. Charlie Miller. However, I feel Coach Crean is definitely above average when it comes to bringing in talent. We all know what kind of system he likes to run, and for his teams he likes athletic wings that can play multiple positions. This kid here really looks like that. I completely trust his judgement whenever it comes to recruiting, now substitution patterns and other minor things well that's a different story. rebelhoosier848891, shortspacequickness and thebigweave 3 Quote
schoosier Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxMzPnHfrE0Sent from my iPad using BtownBannersSpeaking of hyper players, the team he's playing against in this video were full of them. He has a nice shot and blocks shots well with a good vertical. Looks like his best role would be a a three so I don't see how this addresses our inside depth. Maybe he could play a four similar to Watford and he has more athleticism. Are we still recruiting with two oversigns, and who will have to wait when early signing period opens up? I can see some B1G coaches getting ticked off if all are allowed to sign all of these players early since we don't have any seniors and there is a rule in place that addresses this. I can only see one plan and its not created by players leaving for the NBA. Quote
shortspacequickness Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I assume Indiana will sign both players. The rule has changed. You used to be able to sign one over what you have leaving. Since we have zero leaving, that would be one. But now, both can sign and Indiana has to provide their plan for how it will work. No idea what they report on that... There were 600 some transfers this year; at least two guys will seek more playing time. Hartman is the only one I could see wanting to stay no matter his minutes. IMO this is all an example of worrying about something for the sake of being worried. There's literally no scenario where it doesn't work out. If you aren't cutting it as a player, you are not guaranteed anything. Players have to hold up to their end of the bargain. If a kid is doing all he can do athletically and academically, and then he is jettisoned, that is absolutely not right. But that has yet to happen at Indiana and I doubt it will happen. Lt. JSHoosier Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 It's been mentioned on the board before, the oversign always will work out because it has to. You can't have more than 13 scholarship players, so there is no option but for it to work out. Just because it works out though doesn't mean it works out for the good of the program. I think it's BGleas that has brought that up a couple times. 8bucks, BGleas and MikeRoberts 3 Quote

You never know which kids get homesick or will do something stupid to get kicked off the team. So many variables that don't involve Crean. Walking Boot of Doom, CampHoosier and BtownStrength 3 Quote
