Hate to see him go but I would much rather replace the s&c guy than having to replace both the DC and OC like Oregon. The percentage of assistants we have retained (knock on wood we keep the rest) is amazing/impressive. If he was at $925k here and they are paying $1.2 and it seems Cig liked him, it seems like $$$ was not a factor. I cannot imagine we would have let him walk because we could not find $275k. skhoosier2 1 Quote

Gotta be a limit somewhere. We were paying him incredibly. str8baller, Pagoda, go iu bb and 1 other 4 Quote

The fact that we're willing to pay so much for that position and Cignetti's eye for coaching talent makes me think we'll likely get a high quality replacement. str8baller and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote
Hovadipo Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I don’t think it’s money. He’s got some motivation to be at UT, but that likely doesn’t end up much better than it did for Sunseri. HoosierReb01 1 Quote

Yea, I’m not worried about it. I don’t want this to sound like sour grapes, but I’ve followed strength training methods for a while. More in the body building arena these days since they’re the primary experimentors, but the basic science of building strength and speed hasn’t changed much over the years. One exception is PEDs and peptides but that’s not what we’re talking about here. In other words, I think you can have a bad S&C guy…basically a quack who chases all the dumb new trends. But it shouldn’t be that tall of an order to replace one good S&C coach with another for someone as smart as Cig. Hardwood83 and go iu bb 2 Quote

It was being said he’s had one foot out the door since the USC offer last year and possibly NFL aspirations. Maybe he felt he could do more in the SEC or would get more recognition from training more 5 star players. $$ were clearly a factor as well. 8bucks 1 Quote

One thing is that he was at UCF with Heupel for a while. So a pre-existing relationship. Hovadipo, skhoosier2, Class of '66 Old Fart and 1 other 4 Quote

I guess at some point you have to roll the dice if someone is consistently looking to leave. Cig was in interviews even yesterday giving his s&c staff credit and it appears they are all gone today.
