I will have an answer by July.

I've said already, Get atleast one more successful recruiter on the bench to go with Rod Clark and I think the roster will drastically improved. I think we can have a team on par with Wisconsin next year.

We all have stuff going on.  But we also all need a distraction.  I would LOVE for this to be a distraction.  But, it isn't.  This isnt' fun.  We've had degrees of fun on and off for the last 20 years or so (thank you Greivis) , but following this team has been work.

I grew up in an ACC household (not a Maryland one, unfortunately).  But, I went to Maryland and instantly cut all other ties to any others.  Unfortunately, that was the first year they missed the tournament (04-05).  I got redemption though, seeing Will Bowers dominate a young Seph Curry in the 2007 tourney.  Whatever.

I graduated and tried to stay connected.  I volunteered for the Terrapin Club.  I remember putting red celophane in the stairwell windows of Elliott Hall for College Gameday cameras to catch.  Or organizing gamewatches in rural Maryland.  And, I ended up parlaying it into a job working for UMD doing fundraising for several years.  I'm in a different career now, but I owe a lot to UMD, and I've tried to stay connected as much as I can.

In my 20s, the games would affect my mood.  Make my week.  I remember my first job post college, working a night shift in the basement of a hotel in DC, catching glimpses of the UMD/UNC game where Boom Osby and James Gist just gave it to them.  And "go back to the ghetto" was audible from the UNC student section after the loss.  Oh, man.

In my 30s, MD Basketball was a hobby.  I was more established in my career.  My college friend group dispersed.  I watched every game.  Sometimes, it was taped beacause of kids.  But, it was one of the things that was still a part of me.

I just turned 40 this year.  I watched like 14 minutes of a game, and that's just because it was on while I was in a bar with some friends.  I could have prioritized games.  I didn't.  Because I have no connection to this team.

I know it's football, but this tracks.  I was texting someone during the Super Bowl, and I was able to say that I was ~15 feet away from Diggs when he committed to Maryland at the Turtle in CP.  I followed these guys from recruitment through their career.  Even if they ended up elsewhere - I knew their story (the litany of recruiting misses...).

So, maybe this is as much about the current enviornment as it is about Buzz.  But - I don't care.  I don't know these kids.  These coaches.  Anything.  And they don't know us.  And - it's not like everyone has to be a die-hard.  But: play the game.  Let me pretend that you care about this as much as I do.  Because, if nobody on the team cares about Maryland, then why should I?

Funny thing is to me, Maryland will likely have a better roster on Paper than Indiana next year.  Adams was good with high potential. Payne will get a redshirt and he’s a Payne.  Top 10 Olatundun coming in. With similar money to spend as us.

Buzz is whatever and maybe he’s checked out but for just next year they feel like they are closer than us.

Hey the last national TV footage of IU basketball this year .

The NCAA selection show opening montage had Illinois Wagler taking DeVries to the basketball for an and 1 . Neat

Seriously though watching that Big 10 title game . Man so far away from anything like those 2 teams. Feels like we need Power Ball level luck and money to get even close. Hope im wrong …… bring on the portal

Not wrong but we did beat Purdue at home with our roste.   but the size, strength, and athletic disparities are crazy.

Sept 15th 2025 for Nolan Smith. You can catch his Tenn St Tigers next week in the NCAA tournament.

Nolan Smith was hired in July when the previous coach joined the Grizzlies staff. He didn't have to build a staff to hit the portal, the roster was already mostly in place.

DDV should've had his staff in place on day 1 and been able to hit the portal hard. The fact he wasn't in March Madness last year was used as a reason for optimism that we'd be ahead of the game for the portal. We were not. And we didn't get the most out of the group we did land.

He was hired a year ago on March 18. His first year definitely gets a D from me. Not much reason for optimism at this point other than drinking the crimson and cream kool aid, but I will still hope to be proven wrong.

We'd best see some quick commits in the portal this year.

Actually, if you do the math, IUs average record over the last 20 years is 19-14. So this season was an average season for IU bball. Pretty sad stuff.

Pretty standard for IU I wish we just quit paying top for big ten money for these results

In the last portal period, 66% of the top-50 portal players were off the board by the day IU made their 2nd assistant hire (April 11th). By the time you get past the 2nd week of April, you're operating in a talent pool that has been substantially drained.

Was this the same issue when he got hired at WVU? Where he had basically the same season in a slightly worse power conference, because after watching a year of his son that wasn't the reason they missed the NCAA tourney either............

WVU was ranked and TD was avg 15p 6r 4a and shooting 47% from 3 when he got hurt last year.. WVU had wins against Gonzaga and Arizona.. and lost UL in OT.

Facts matter

Burn it down

Ok cool you've chosen to take the mantle has the eternally optimistic poster good for you.

BUT

I just don't think DDV deserves the grace of his predecessors even after year one. I'm not an irrational IU fan by any means. Thought Crean was fired a year early he had earned the right to try and correct I get contract or whatever. Yeah 4 years of Archie had run its course but if the 2020 tourney doesn't get cancelled? who knows . Truthfully I unlike most people wouldn't have freaked out if they gave Woody one more year either.

I don't expect final fours and big ten titles with 30+ win seasons, but its never been easier to achieve 20 wins and just MAKE the NCAA tourney even if you get bounced in the first or 2nd round and maybe you can build something from there. the reality is you cant point to one single thing DDV did this year that makes you think next year will be better.

I don't thing his "learning" comments were enough . Truthfully the AD needs to have a press conference and tell media and fans alike he talked with DDV and this year flat wasn't up to standards and expectations even in year 1 when you compare the year other year 1 power conference coaches had (listed them in a previous post) and every level of resources will be dedicated to fixing this issue and making sure this is the last NCAA tournament IU basketball misses.

I also don't like skipping out of the crown either I get the NIT but dont get the Crown. I know you lost 6 of 7 , but if you want to prove you can WIN and build real momentum into next year and even potentially win more NIL money for the portal with a mostly senior team that should play because they are getting paid and showcase your program at a national level despite missing the tourney? Can't win the portal and play in the tourney? Bull teams in the tourney do it thats yet another excuse.

Before any says it I'm not going anywhere gonna watch every game next year no matter what happens in the portal good or bad just like I have watched every game every season since I was old enough to do so. Would LOVE to eat crow next year if they win 25 + games please all the DMs . But also too I'm gonna point out all of the alarming trends and issued too.

....Dolson can really earn his AD of the Year award he just recieved for 2025-2026 if Devries can get things turned around next year.

In a whopping 9 games you act like he would have been a conference player of the year in the Big 12 LOL . we saw a full season in the Big 10 13ppg, 5reb, 3ast on 33% from 3 (some people argue is worse than the Big 12) then in the biggest game of the season he had 6 points and shot 20 % from 3 vs an 18 loss team. Millions well spent

Log off man. In those whopping 9 games they had wins over Gonzaga and Arizona. They were completely jobbed by the NCAA selection committee. Had DeVries assembled a roster similar to the one he did at West Virginia, IU is comfortably dancing this year.

Quoting this because I'm surprised it didn't generate more discussion. I'm about the same age as the guy who wrote this and it definitely resonates with me. The way our season ended and where we find ourselves now has me seriously questioning my hobbies next winter.

The program is just in a rough spot. We need to win now, but we don't seem to have the infrastructure to do it. If we want a program that's built to last, it will take time, but in today's world, fans don't have time anymore.
