I tried to go back and find out some of the post players that DD was interested in last portal.

Fredrik Leo Curtis

Baba Miller

Federiko Federiko

Tyrell Ward

Elyjah Freeman

White boy that played for Iowa and now Creighton. Dix I think?

I was thinking of this kid: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/josh-dix-1.html  Creighton isn’t very good but he’s their leading scorer.

Obvoisly Sandfort was the big one but I don’t remember IU ever having interest there.

Yeah.  Dix isn’t a post player. I thought he was talking about post players and Freeman fit  that bill

He was. I read it wrong. I don’t recall any post players but I don’t follow the portal enough to know non-P5 players

Had we got Conwell or Dix we wouldn’t have gotten Wilkerson.

As far as Bigs.  Flory had early momentum and that would have been top notch.

Many of the others were meh options but Baba Miller would have been interesting on this roster.  Wish we had him.

I agree about Conwell/Dix…Glad we got Wilkerson.

To bad we couldn’t land Miller/Flory…would’ve been quite a team.

If we can upset Purdue and go on a short run in this section of the schedule will do a lot to salvage the season

Archie was infamously horrible versus Purdue. OTOH, Woody wasn’t.

Woody’s first season he split with Purdue beating them when at Assembly while they were ranked 4th. It was our best win and a major reason we made the tourney that year.

Woody’s second year he swept Purdue including beating them at Mackey when ranked #1.

Woody got swept by Purdue his 3rd year and we missed the tournament. Last year we split with Purdue beating them at home that was probably our second best win after the surprise win at MSU, and was a big reason we were on the bubble with most having us in.

I wouldn’t say Tuesday is a “must win” but it’s probably our best opportunity for a big win left with @PU @Illinois and MSU being the other 3 left.

You have to look at our roster realistically. Teams at the bottom of the conference we should be able to win at home and go .500 on the road against. We don't have any conceivable way of beating a top of the conference team, because we can't match talent and/or athleticism with them.

14-9 when we get back from California.

We would then need to beat Wisconsin, Oregon, Northwestern and Minnesota at home, go on the road and beat Ohio State to finish .500 in conference. Add a BTT win to give us 20 wins and we get in. That's us playing to the best of our ability. That's going 5-3 to finish the conference regular season.

Disgusted with DeVries for staff and roster assembly....ABSOLUTELY. But if he can do the above with this roster he can flat out coach.

Like I said in another post -- Just think if we could have beaten Minn on the road and Iowa at HOME.

They were #1 when we beat them at home, but I think they were still in the top 5 when we beat them at their place.

What is the consensus on the staff?  I’ll cut DD some slack for the roster … he had only so much time to assemble an entire roster.  But what’s up with the assistants?

He did not get at least one of his presumed initial targets. I also wonder if he wanted to bring the former Illini coach with him but he went elsewhere. I think the one assistant may have been at at TTech?  Not getting these two also may have been why he missed on some guys. My thinking here is that if these 2 assistants came and brought people then the planned staff and roster may have been much different than what we got.

Murphy from Bama and the Tech coached with him before. He swung for the fences but Murphy is considered a top assistant and Bama paid him more to stay.   Same with the Tech assistant as we know now Tech has billionaire money and are not afraid to use it.   Frazier was never coming to IU he said as much on twitter telling Illinois fans they already knew he wasn’t going to go to IU.  Barnett got the Oral Robert’s head coaching job and Ostram had already been part of an IU staff that got canned.

Not really about DDV, but just on the subject of head coaches...

I know many are not fans of Field of 68 or Goodman, but an interesting thing they've been doing is surveying coaches in different conferences to rank head coaching jobs. Here's how B1G coaches rank programs in the conference in terms of desirability for a HC:

For those curious here are some other power conferences (don't think they've done the SEC yet):

I feel Josh Schertz will be super well sought after, but I just don't think the coaching jobs that are likely to be open this year are all that desirable (Pitt, Syracuse, Providence, KState, ASU, and a few others in this tier, and other A10 jobs like URI and Dayton). UNC would be interesting for him, but I feel Hubert Davis will keep doing just well enough to be impossible to fire but clearly continue a really really slow and prolonged decline.

Stephon Payne from Jacksonville was a name that was linked to IU. Cannot remember if he visited or not. Either way, ended up at Seton Hall and averages 7 point and 8 rebounds a game in a little over 20 minutes a game. Has one of the better defensive rebounding % in the country. Him and Alexis as a 40 minute platoon would have us in a much better spot and would still have money leftover after significantly overpaying for Bailey.
