Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Baylor (Exhibition) - Sunday, 10.26.25 @ 1:00 on B1G+

Didn't watch the game, only followed along in this thread. As we've seen in football, coaching matters. This season is a reset. I want to see consistent effort, smart basketball plays, and playing like being on this team is a privilege. Crean's early teams had no talent but they played their ***** off. I watched every game and rooted like hell for those guys. This, to me, is a foundational year with better things to come.

Sam on ball screen coverage in 2nd half, great play. One of the things I think stands out is how aggressive the team plays defensively when challenged- coach talks about this in his post game presser. You could say we’re going to be “scrappy” out of necessity, but I think that while undersized up front we’re going to be tough, a fighting team, as well as a good shooting team, and if that proves to be our identity it’s going to pay off in the W column

I'm glad to read this, I thought we made some really poor decisions offensively from about the 3:00 mark to about the 1:00 mark at the end of the game.  Glad to see that wasn't a Devries thing

For reference:

Baylor has made the tourney 10/11 seasons (Covid yr excepted)

They’re last 5 seeds have been: 9, 3, 3, 1, 1

They’ve won 20+ games 13/14 years

Odds are we just went toe to toe with a solid team that will likely make the tourney. It’s our best benchmark so far.

And without a couple of our key guys.  If we ever get healthy we're a top 25 team imo.

Ok, we're 5 games in to the DeVries tenure at IU. They've had 3 games in Puerto Rico and two exhibition games against Marian and Baylor. Entirely new coaching staff, and a completely new team (save maybe a walk-on or two). The indomitable "hump" is gone, and it would appear that these guys have already gotten to know one another - something the previous coaching staff was unable to accomplish for FOUR long, dreadful years.

The Hoosiers still have some issues to fix, of course, it's early, and there are injuries, but I am feeling pretty good about our chances.

Basketball is looking up, Football is 8-0 and #2 in the nation. It's a good time to be a Hoosier.

Love this, Indiana basketball should have a culture of playing hard and smart regardless of how much talent they have. So tired of stupid, indifferent basketball over the last 20yrs.
